Bangkok Governor Blamed on Flooding Mismanagement

Members of the Pheu Thai Party meeting yesterday threatened to discharge the Bangkok Governor for failing to handle the flood crisis effectively.

The party urged the governor to concede to the truth and stop accusing the government of mismanagement.

Pheu Thai Party Deputy Spokesperson Jirayu Huangsub revealed after the party's meeting that the Budget Bureau has clarified to the Cabinet about the budget making procedure for next year.

Pheu Thai Party members questioned representatives from the Royal Irrigation Department and the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand about the main causes of the flood ravaging the country.

They also asked the Comptroller General's Department about relief package purchasing.

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Pracha Promnok reprimanded Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra after the governor reiterated on November 3 that his demand for additional water pumps from the Flood Relief Operations Command or FROC was turned down.

Pracha said that in reality, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration or BMA forwarded an official document to the FROC on November 4 about the request for water pumps, a day after the governor accused the FROC not providing full cooperation.

Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung commented that the Interior Ministry can exercise its authority to discharge the Bangkok Governor owing to his inefficiency.

At the same time, the FROC insisted the crisis would not worsen, given that the BMA conceded that its water pumps were capable of draining 70 percent of inundation.

Those at the meeting urged the Bangkok Governor to fess up about his failure to tackle the flood rather than continue to blame the government.

Really stupid politics on their part IMO, kick him out now and you have no scapegoat but then again as we are hopefully nearing a climax to this disaster (emphasis on hopefully) they should wait another week or two for maximum "Superman to the rescue" appointments.

I'd like to see them try that.

Yes, me too.

Clean them out.

Simple problem management in most Western countries:

  1. Identify problem
  2. Find Fix or workaround for problem
  3. Implement fix or workaround
  4. Define how to prevent problem happening again

Problem management Asian style:

  1. Find someone to blame
  2. Hope problem goes away :whistling:

But, it's perfectly acceptable that P.T. MP Karun Hosakul to break down water barriers in the Don Muang area, mismanage donated good and relief supplies, or even put in bold red letters, " DONATED ITEMS COURTESY OF POLITICIAN KARUN HOSAKUL" on the sides of relief trucks (I can't link this, but a Google search will give you the url) with very little repercussion, if any, at all.

P.T. had no qualms about firing Pathumthani Democrat Governor Pheerasak Hinmuangkao in an unjustified manner and replacing with with one of their own. Seeing the state of Phathumthani and the surrounding areas now, perhaps Pheerasak wouldn't bend over for P.T., whereas Khajornsak Singtoku of course will and the results show. Poor management!

Amazing from the same group that screamed about a "Water Coup" last month. They're not doing to bad themselves right now. Which member of the opposition will be next? Stay tuned.

I hope Chalerm has checked his facts.

As the Bangkok Governor is voted for by the people of Bangkok, I think the rules concerning any dismissal would be quite different to that of any other province.

It will be interesting to see it tried on.

It looks like the "attack now" command has come from the "lands of sand".

As for Karun, if the word from the "canal" (which is normally Chung Akartd Road) near his Don Muang office is any indication, he should stop his grandstanding and get on with actually helping people and forget himself for once.

Of course they're blaming him! They after all need to divert the blame from their boss's sister. What a bunch of scumbags. When this crisis is over, I just can't wait for the Army to swoop in.

Advocating the illegal seizure of power through the threat of violence? You sound like Nattawut and Jatuporn on the red stage at Rajprasong. And in doing so, you make your rabidly anti-gov/red/Thaksin rants elsewhere on this forum look even less credible than they do at first, second and thirty-seventh glance.

I just heard from a colleague that Thai news reports that Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung has withdrawn all the remarks and that no effort will be made to remove the Bangkok Governor.

Anyone else heard this? Sorry I don't have a source yet .

If so, wouldn't be the first time for him.

He has a history of "shoot first, ask questions later"...

Could you just imagine what that would do to the "democratic" veneer, which helped this government win office ?

Given that a recent Poll indicated the Governments' failure to address the flooding problem by appointing people not qualified for the jobs they were given, that the PM was recently given full marks for determination and no marks for ability, that her instruction to pump out Don Mueang Airport by last Friday has also failed miserably (totally impossible) indicates to me that the Government, the PM and FROC are totally incapable of understanding and handling water management.

If you live with Thais and amongst them, you will know that nobody trusts the Government and FROC anymore but they now have an even greater respect for the Bangkok Governor, the Army Commander and his troops for the dedication and efforts demonstrated over the last few weeks to help people in distress.

His history is actually shoot first then deny shooting.

It's fairly common around here.

Now there are 500 people dead. How many people must die because of this crazy government until a coup is justified?

(by the way a coup is only illegal if it is unsuccessful.)

Most astute gl555 however don't think we will need to wait for the crisis to be over before the army moves. I wouldn't be surprised if this whole flood is just a great entry point for the army to assume rule under a state of emergency.

This whole flood scenraio will be more than just a natural disaster before this is all over

There won't be a SOE. There won't be a coup ...

... yet.

But, IMO, a coup would be the worst thing for Thailand now.

Funny you should mention Rajprasong. As I recall, no one died the last time the Army swooped in to get rid of big brother. No buildings were burned down. Can you say the same when the Red Shirts tried to overthrow the government last year? The pro Reds on this forum are sooooo credible!
