from reading other threads it looks like the big 'IF' for floods in the Sukhumvit area has to do with whether or not the big canal next to New Petchburi Road overflows...I need a new passport from the US Embassy (Wireless Road) and need to renew my retirement extension by 27 December (Suan Plu)...

I had planned to come to BKK to take care of all of it in 2 weeks time; 2 weeks for the passport then get the embassy income letter and then walk down to Suan Plu for the extension...what is the general feeling in the area? imminent disaster or just a big 'IF'?...maybe better to get my ass down there now as who knows what's gonna happen next week?

please comment...

We are living day to day here and so far all is OK in the CBD area. If you are not aware of it, the US Embassy is now by appointment only. You need to go onto their website and schedule your appointment.

You can get in today (I think).

You may and may not be able to get in there tomorrow or next week or next month. I'd start your process ASAP for all the contingencies you may be facing, including possible long lines and delays on account of employees staying home to protect their homes and families. Or it may be something as simple as "we don't have the correct forms because the factory that prints them is flooded".

I doubt it will flood, but anyone acting on that non-expert opinion would be rather foolish (myself included).

oh yeah...I was gonna book an appointment at the embassy both for the new passport application and later to pick it up and to get the income letter for the retirement extension...don't wanna make things more complicated than they have to be...don't wanna be confronted by a 7' tall marine with: 'YOU NEED AN APPOINTMENT TO BE SERVED, SIR!'

and, if the reports are anything to go by the emergency immigration service at Suan Plu is actually more organised and better staffed than at the usual local office (mine's Ayutthaya)...

also goin' to BKK is a good excuse for tankin' up on some good burgers and tacos...now someone will say that the taco places are flooded...saw dozens floating in the canal...inundation at burger city...

^^^please read the main immigration forum...Chaeng-Wattana is not accessible due to flooding and Suan Plu has been 're-activated' to handle extensions, re-entry permits, 90 day reports, etc., for all foreign nationals..until further notice...

Have a look at http://gamling.org/?locale=en this is a user input website and is the most accurate I have found. This shows wireless Rd dry. I live not far from there when on the beach and can confirm is dry in that area as of 30 minutes ago.

Cheers.
