Examples Of Price Gouging During The Flood

Featured Replies

Okay first off I am not trying to denigrate Thai's here. What I am trying to do is compile a list of known scams and maybe give some warning to others who are in the same predicament.

We live in a Moo Baan in western BKK, actually Nontaburi by a kilometre. We have been flooded out by 1.5 metres of water for nearly 3 weeks now so getting in and out is difficult and we have to rely on a 'boat' person to ferry us about.

We have been cheated and scammed on a daily basis. Some examples:

1: Agreed on one price to have goods delivered and then a much higher price demanded on delivery (100 baht to 250 baht)

2: Paid a boatman to take us somewhere only to have him tell us to get off before our destination because he had a more lucrative fare.

3: Being charged a ridiculous fare (200 baht) to go one kilometre in a row boat which took over one hour.

Over to you.

I am living as well in Nonthaburi province, Saothonglin subdistrict, "Kunalai Village" is our gated community which is flooded for the last four weeks.

But opposite than you, I have nothing to complain about being overcharged...

For example, there is one grocery outside the gates of the residence which is taking daily orders with next morning delivery by boat, direct in the garden of our house... We paid today 450 baht for a box of Leo beer and 90 baht for a rack of twenty eggs, and as usual the grandson -doing boat deliveries- refused the one hundred baht tip that I always want to give to him.

Also, if we want to venture by yourselves -as we are doing from time to time- we have boats from our moo baan at our disposal... and free of charge, of course!

there is an existing thread with simiIar discussi0n

pIease c0ntinue there:
