Teaching A Thai Friend English

Featured Replies

I am an American and I have been teaching a Thai friend English over the internet for the past few weeks (free of charge). I will be visiting her in Thailand next week and I would like to obtain some sort of curriculum so that I can more efficiently teach her (free of charge). Can anyone recommend where I might obtain this curriculum? I will be stopping in Bangkok for a day, then Udonthani for a day, then bus to Loei. I have been gathering information about teaching English in Thailand, and she has been such a delightful student that I might pursue it further and possibly obtain my TEFL certificate. I have a BS and one year teaching recreational classes. Thank you!

It's hard to assess with out some idea of her age, her level of English and reasons for wanting to learn the language, such as work, travel etc. Also, what level of school did she complete? High School? University?

There are a variety of series that are good. I have used a number of them, but the Interchange series is quite easy to use. I am sure we have posters who have experience with other texts who can give you further ideas.

In the end, it's a good idea to have her select a book or series with which she is comfortable. It's a good idea to steer her in the right direction, since some students will over/under estimate their ability.
