Vespa Market - Open?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

Apparently there is a market around the lad prao ratchadapisek area that seels old scooters, scooter parts, shirts, gifts etc. Does anyone know if it will be open, owing to the recent floods? I know that area got hit quite hard so dont want to make the 3 hour drive up to BKK tonight if its going to be closed.

Cheers

frankly: from what I remember this is a kind of mainly 2nd hand-but upmarket-stuff, where there MAY also be the odd Vespa/parts/exchange seller. Also FWIR: only weekends, or maybe only either sat or un-from about 14/15 hrs (remember Thai do not like the sun that much)-untill late eve. Yes-on the parking lot of the MRT crossing Ratchda/LPrao rd. From what I recall from news-but have not been in that area since long time, it is now clear of floods, but did have floods-not too high, fairly recently. If you have by now adapted a little to Thai ideas about how things work= not like in the regulated west, you would have noted that it is not a matter of ''open'' or close-you cannot ban any Thai from trying to sell things- but more of :how many vendors will turn up, how many buyers will know or find it worthwhile etc. Or; just like nay lotteree.

Before the new condotown development, the Saturday market used to get going around 7PM and last late, although some vendors would leave earlier. It has now moved N of Ladprao Rd, as another poster indicated, in a MUCH smaller place in front of the MRT building parking structure.

The area is perfectly dry now, but finding Vespa parts is hit-and-miss, because there are not nearly as many spaces in the present location. It's been a year since I last walked around there, but I was greatly disappointed at how much clothing/used shoes/trinkets had supplanted the motorcycle/Vespa/car parts sellers.

Worth a quick walk around, but a mere shadow of its previous self.

If anyone knows of another weekend market for car/motorcycle/scooter parts, please post it.
