Hello all,

well here is my story if anyone can give any advice? I have only been in Thailand for a couple of weeks and have landed a job teaching near Pattaya. I went there last weekend had a good time and came back to where my school is and yesterday the school asked for a copy of my passport ( UK ) and it's nowhere to be seen. I am now 100% sure it has been lost or stolen and my visa expires on the 23rd of this month. Can anyone give any advice on what steps are needed to get this mess sorted out thank you

Make a Police Report and get a document from them with a crime number.

Then visit the British Embassy for a replacement.

You will then have to visit Immigration.

Did you make copies of Visa pages?

As Crossy says below you will probably end up dealing with Hong Kong

No I didn't make a photocopy of my visa ( V.O.A ) only the photo page I'm a bit worried about what to do about the visa issue as it runs out next week

As above get a Police Report, then to the Embassy where you will be interviewed, you will have to make an application for a new passport, upon receipt of passport you go to Immigration to get the stamps moved into the new one, if your record is available on the computer.

Enjoy the fun time

My passport was stolen from my home 3 weeks ago. Number one, get a police report. Then apply for a new passport (application has to go to Hong Kong, then on to the UK - takes 6 weeks).

You do not need to go to the Embassy unless you want/need to travel urgently - they can issue an ETD (Emergency Travel Document) which would get you out of the country but not necessarily back in.

Of course your problem is that you only had a 30 day visa exempt stamp (right?), so probably what you are supposed to do is get an ETD and go home, get a new passport and then come back.

Well my problem with that is I have just started a new job at a good school so going back to the UK is not really an option as I would loose my job here so my next plan is just to wait for my replacement passport and then go to the local immigration office and pay the overstay fee. I know this is not a good idea but it seems as the best option

I don't envy you that trip to immigration in 6 weeks time when the words "no visa", "overstay" and "working" will have to be used. If the school would give you a week off then a quick flit back to blightly might be cheaper!

Hopefully somebody has some more direct experience and solutions for your situation.

I thought you had to get a letter from the Embassy about the stolen passport and transferring stamps.

Yes you will have to hear those words "overstay", "working illegally" and "fines", get used to them now.

You might have to put your hand in your pocket more than once.

I am assuming that you are aware that you should not be working without a work permit and appropriate visa??

You may need to rethink your options and take in some of the advice on offer.

I am waiting for the school to sort out all the paperwork which might take a couple of months and I won't be telling the immigration office that I am working

You are treading a very dangerous line here, if someone visits the school or makes a phone call you are working without correct documentation/ Visa and now no passport either, do you really want to go that route ???, or is your love of fish head soup and close/intimate relationships with other cell mates so over whelming.

Get it sorted out mate, if the school is anywhere near decent they'll understand and wait while you sort it out correctly.

Earlier you said you needed your passport, now you say you are waiting for the school to do the paperwork, I would be keeping a very low profile, it was not sooo long ago that Immigration and the Ministry of Labour were doing raids.

It just takes one stupid person to say something and it is time for you to be sharing a nice cosy room with 35 other guys. And do not think you go to IDC as sometimes they send people to other jails (recently happened to a friend of mine), before your deportation.

Of course i need a passport but getting an emergency document and going back to the UK to get another passport is not the route I want to be taking and when the school sorts out my paperwork I can go to Laos Or Penang and get a non B visa and then get a work permit I know that I will get the maximum fine of 20,000 baht but its cheaper than flying back to the UK and having to wait for a replacement passport

Good luck.

Remember you will need a passport to apply for a WP before getting your Non B visa, then you will have to leave the country with the receipt from the Ministry of Labour and all the docs to get your Non B.

In the mean time just keep low
