A parallel autopsy will be conducted in the murder of an aide to Democrat Party candidate Thaenkhun Jitissara to seek clarification over details that were not provided by the police autopsy.

Thaenkhun said he believed the police bureau's forensic investigation into the killing of Chutidej Suwannakerd was transparent, but he did not quite understand why the police report said the victim had been shot at the back of his head when there is a gunshot entry wound in the mouth. Chutidej was shot dead late on Saturday.

The Don Muang Democrat candidate accompanied Chutidej's widow, Natthai Khruangsai, yesterday to the Central Institute of Forensic Science to meet Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand.

Pornthip told Natthai to not cremate the body, but instead xray it for possible bullet shrapnel. She also suggested that she seek a third opinion from a government hospital to ensure total neutrality.

In answer to Thaenkhun's question as to whether shooting a victim in the mouth possibly suggested ulterior motives, Pornthip said forensic science could not explain this, but the police's behavioural science division could be helpful on that aspect.

A team from Pornthip's institute is also inspecting the crime scene in Don Muang for possible clues, while Natthai accompanied another team to Wat Don Muang to further inspect Chutidej's body.

Thaenkhun reiterated that Chutidej was killed because he exposed illegal gambling dens in Don Muang area, while national police chief Priewpan Damapong and Bangkok police chief Winai Thongsong insisted that he was killed due to personal conflicts or rows over his amulet business.

Are they truly unable to agree whether the guy was shot in the mouth or the back of the head? Some forensics!

Entrance wound would typically display munition residue, exit wound doesn't. The exit wound, when there is one, is typically bigger than the entennce wound. Often, when an attempt is made to muzzle the gun with by use of a "silencer" it is hard to distinguish the entry and exit wounds until one starts probing and tracing. Even then, if a hefty slug is delivered, there might be too much damage to allow an easy identification of entry and exit. Usually the debris field is an indication, but even then it is not unusual for there to be more splatter at the entry point depending upon the tissue hit first Throw in the differences in bullets, hollow point or variants of a full or partial metal jacket and it can be hard to determine, until the deceased's skin is peeled back and the flesh exposed. A funny thing about offering a professional opinion on gunshot wounds is that experience really does matter. The folks that work in high gun crime cities like Chicago and LA can usually get a very good idea with just a visual exam, but someone that sees only a few of those wounds in any given year is going to have to really dig around. Sometimes, bullets have weird trajectories bouncing around inside a body, banging off of bones and being diverted by tissue. This may be one of those types of head shots, so please be patient.

at least they are not saying it was suicide....!

Silly, only farangs commit suicide... For Thais it's purely personal and has nothing to do with police or politics. I mean, police and gambling? Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Definitely the amulet business! How can you not see that he had a cursed amulet somewhere in his collection????

The other paper stated that he was shot four times in front of his family by two men on a motorbike, the driver locked arms with him and the pillion passenger shot him, so maybe there is a dispute over which shot was the fatal one.

Everyday there are killings and murders in thailand, why this one is so special...is it because the deceased was linked to the Democrat

party...i am sure there were people linked to the Red shirts or PT party being killed too. Remember the 71 innocents killed last year..

RIP...

Yes, every suspected murder should be thoroughly investigated by the police and an independent coroner; they are all special, even the gravity-challenged farang toppling like ripe apples from high-rise apartments.

If this was indeed the case, I sure wouldn't want to be the one locking my arms with the victim (presumably struggling) whilst your accomplice is shooting him in the head - you've got to have a lot of faith in your accomplice.................
