Holiday Funk

Featured Replies

Boy, am I in a mean holiday funk. Never happened to me before. Started out yesterday with my first Thanksgiving without the traditional feast. Had a baguette and a bottle of wine on the front porch as a meager substitute, but I think this just made things worse. Was playing Christmas music, which I love, but couldn't stand to hear it and turned it off; now afraid to turn it on again.

Can't seem to put a smile on my face, my libido is in a trench and even my customary four Chang this evening didn't seem to turn the trick.

Bah Humbug.

:o

Sad to hear that. I sometimes get the seasonal blues too -just like many other expats do living overseas anywhere I suspect. My first Christmas in Thailand, '97, walking down soi 8 in Pattaya, completely surreal and man, felt like, what the hel_l am I doing here...

My Father's coming again in Jan, had a skype call from my Sis today etc but nothing replaces that feeling of being with family and "home" at the holidays. Guess I'm lucky tho, no kids in other lands etc, that must be very tough on some at the holidays :o

Everyone in this position should have a copy of "It's a Wonderful Life" (Jimmy Stewart) under glass, with a sign saying "In case of emergency holiday season blues, break glass and watch this" Just as a reminder. Meantime, chin up! :D

Bright side finished me shopping and wont set foot in a store til after Jan!! :o Crissie season is one for spending time with reles/mates - so understand the funk buadhai!!!

Thanks all. Feeling better this morning.

Funny, I've lived outside the US all my adult life and this is the first time I've experienced this sort of "blues".

Maybe it's old age, or indigestion....

I dont get that feeling. Having lived away from Scotland for about 12 years. I dont miss Xmas as a family thing. Though i do miss my family. I wouldnt want to live in Scotland again. I miss friends anytime of the year as goes with family. But i wouldnt change it.ie where i am is where i am and i make the best of it. More than that. Its usually always better. I do miss a white xmas. I dont mean the cold stuff. :o

Too expensive here. :D

Waking up on Xmas day. Glass of Champagne and.................

With me Christmas started getting dull when my parents split up, after that it didn't seem the same.

I haven't had that magical Christmas feeling since my parents divorced :o

....But you just get on with it really :D

Try watching some Christmas films and doing some family activites Mike :D

There`s a holiday coming??? When....???

I try to keep busy.

Keeps me out of trouble.

Also, I´ve only spent maybe 3 or 4 christmassed with any family in the last 12 or 13 years.

Just another day really... I took to dubbing it Pissed-mas Day.

Just another excuse to get drunk.

Happy new Beer!!!

Think of it as a version of the Jewish Defense League

Fair warning to any public official who renames a Christmas tree a "holiday tree": You may get a call from one of hundreds of lawyers lined up by Christian legal groups to defend Christmas against those they say are bent on purging it from the holiday season.

Two groups, Liberty Counsel, affiliated with Rev. Jerry Falwell, and the Alliance Defense Fund, say they have almost 1,600 lawyer-volunteers between them ready to battle what some conservative Christians view as a secular movement against nativity scenes, Christmas trees and even the greeting "Merry Christmas." - Link

Having spent 10 years in the merchant navy, not one of which gave me Xmas at home, I'm totally immune to it :o
