Getting A Replacement Uk Passport In Thailand

Recommended Posts

Hi

My passport is used up only half a page left. I just found out they dont make UK passports in Bangkok and send them to Hong Kong and state 30 days.

Is this a realistic timeframe? How can i get one quicker? Maybe go to Hong Kong myself but do they put a big visa stick in passport in hong kong on entry i havent got space for it.\

I was considering taking out an old indonesian visa label but i might get in trouble for that. That would give me the extra page i need

Thanks

Don't go to Hong Kong - they issue the passports out of the UK.

The timescale is realistic based on post I have seen.

Unless you need to travel in that time I would just do it.

Go ahead and rip your old visa out.

I've heard they do a lovely Christmas dinner in Thai prisons.

<deleted> where do you people come from? It is a very serious offence to deface a passport.

so my visa will be up in 2 weeks.. so im looking at 2 weeks overstay fine?

Now we are into the realms of piss-poor planning.

Non-Imm visa ? Do a border run get another 90 days

Unbelievable. Do we think yo might get in trouble for ripping out a visa out of a passport ? That would give you the exta page you need plus it would give you 5 years or more in a Thai Prison or a very hefty fine.

In case I am not being very clear. Dont rip out, up, anything. Apply for a new passport and wait. Pay the overstay fine and enjoy the down time in between. Preferably not as a guest.

The only quick way to do it is to go to the UK for a new PP :(

Gone are the days of next day service :(

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Next day service available in the UK only (at double the normal cost). If you went to Hong Kong you would still have to wait weeks for it, and the stamp to enter HKG is small, about 1/4 of a page.

If you send from Thailand then you do not need to go the Embassy, just send direct to Hong Kong.

How come you never noticed on your last visa run or last visit to Immigration, poor planning am afraid to say.

When you say my current visa expires in two weeks, do you mean your permission to stay expires in two weeks?. tell us a little more about your visa, and your travel plans, maybe someone can suggest something to help.

is there only a half page left or is there a few empty spaces here and there as well?

the more facts given, the more help can be offered.

Not quite double.

I have just renewed mine, same day, cost £138.50 for a jumbo version vs £90.50 for the standard service.

It took three and a half weeks to renew mine in September. You send the renewal forms to Hong Kong and they mail the passport back to you directly from the UK, all using DHL.

It's worth noting that you don't need to send your old passport with the application, only a colour photocopy of the id page. They say the old passport is 'electronically cancelled', I guess this will happen at some point during the four weeks that it takes to print the new one.

If I were you I'd fly down to Cambodia for a quick 'visa run', just stay overnight and return the following day then send off the application. Otherwise just pay the 2 weeks overstay which will be 7000 Baht - probably about the same as a trip to Cambodia but without having to actually bother going there - worth the money in my opinion.

A trip to Cambodia is always worthwhile !

ukr - I think I read somewhere that the old passport was cancelled upon receipt of the renewal application.

Depends on your finances, you can actually get a same day emergency passport issue in UK now, but next day is a good option. the passport issuing system in London is quite frankly bloody fantastic. Hardly any queues at all. I was in there 15 mins to deliver the request, got an appointment for pickup time the next day and went and waited 5 mins! Otherwise do as suggested get an extension of your visa and send the passport off. It is illegal to tamper with a passport, so taking out the Indonesian Visa is madness. You pay for the passport but it does not belong to you, it belongs to HM Government! Send it from here if you have the visa time. If money is not the problem I personally would not want a 7000 baht overstay fine against my name. Good luck, Merry Christmas.

OK

Thanks - actually not bad planning just circumstances changed which means i need to stay in TL longer than planned.

I was reading on the UK site that I need to make an appointment to get the same/next day UK passport and it can take 2 weeks to get the appointment. http://www.direct.go...tions/DG_174149

I dont have enough room for the full page Cambodian visa label so that pretty much rules out cambo. Im currently on entry without visa/excemption. I could go to burma and come back get 15 days at the border. Then i just get 2 stamps. I have room for that. Otherwise i was thinking, if i fly in and out of malaysia.. malaysia does not give a large visa label.. its just a stamp for entry without visa / visa on arrival or whatever they call it. Or am i wrong? Then i get 30 days visa on arrival and I can then extend for a week for 1000 baht? That gives me 5 weeks, should be plenty of time. Would this work?

OK - will not deface my passport!

Thanks

You could do an e-visa run to Cambodia - that will use up no space at all (Phnom Penh, Poipet and Koh Kong) and get 15 days (30 days PP).

The 14 days appointment time is the maximum time before appointment date. They literally do it by the clock - I was not allowed to book for Saturday 10th when phoning on Friday 25th Nov.

I should say that it was a fantastic service when I got there.

Hong Kong gives you a smaller chop than Malaysia. Singapore also small (chopwise also!). Probably HK will be more diligent about squeezing their chop into a neat corner if you ask nicely. Try to suggest a suitable place to stick it

Malaysia USED to be small stamp, less than 1/6 page. Abount the size of a "visa exempt" entry stamp in Thailand.
