A robber was extrajudicially killed after he had robbed a gold shop inside a supermarket in Bangkok's Min Buri district and shot and injured a policeman.

Two robbers robbed 200 baht weight of gold from Aurora gold shop at Big C, Sukhapiban 3 branch. One of them had a gunfight with Police Senior Sergeant Major Chieochan Charoensiri, 39 and fled away. Another with a bag containing the gold who fled a robbery scene later was shot dead by Chieochan. An eyewitness said the dead robber whose named is unknown shot the policeman twice before trying to escape.

Chieochan was rushed to Navaminthra 9 Hospital and later admitted to Police General Hospital. He is safe.

In related news, four robbers, who robbed Saeng Thong Suk gold shop in Khlong San district of Bangkok and shot and injured the shop's owners on December 2, have been arrested.

Metropolitan Police Bureau Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Winai Thongsong told a press conference yesterday that police had arrested Yothin Saekang, 25, Natthawan Thangsirikulphorn, 19, Satawat Meemaidee, 20 and Theeraphon Saenghirun, 19.

Winai said the arrest was done following the information given by people in Nong Yai community on Phetkasem Road in Bang Khae district of Bangkok. Satawat and Theeraphon were arrested there while Yothin and Natthawan were held in Nakhon Sawan.

The suspects will face accusations of attempted murder, using gun for robbery, carrying a gun in public without permission and shooting gun in public.

In another criminal news, police knew the name of a suspect who shot motorists travelling on Ratchadapisek Road on December 23 night but will not tell the public now. He is a noncommissioned police officer at Protection and Crowd Control Division of Metropolitan Police Bureau. They have headed to his hometown in Songkhla to search for the suspect.

I went there just as they were cleaning up.

People were just carrying on if nothing had happened.

Even the girls in the gold shop looked normal. There were 2 bullet holes head height in the glass cabinet and i bet a few more that i couldnt notice, so it was lucky no innocent people got hurt

Edit apart from the hero cop of course.

That is extraordinary. No crime scene, no isolating the witnesses (separate and take away for statements) Business as usual... I believe you as this is Thailand.

In Australia the area would be locked down (Crime Scene) no one in or out, all witnesses located and immeadiately separated so that they can't talk to each other. The officer involved would be stripped of his clothing, hands swabbed, firearm and equpment siezed and he would also be isolated from other officers. Internal investigations and homicide squad would attend and conduct separate investigations both would be overseen by a separate body like the Office of Police Integrety (3 separate investigations) Forensic investigations the whole area would be closed down for hours ( the entire day if need be).

Thats going a bit over the top isnt it?

I did see 1 police guy with a tape measure.

I think no need to do that to the copper considering he got shot. The thiefs are caught on cctv and also had a gun and a bag off gold.

Its just common sense who are the guilty ones here. Should the police man not shoot him back considering the thieft had a gun and was using it? Seems like in australia the police man would be too worried to shot because of all the potential problems he will face after opening fire.

Trouble in western countries is they go to over the top so the guilty end up not guilty through nonsense .

No need for all that nonsense. Just shoot them. Problem solved and no going back to crime.

The reason the officer is investigated in Australia is to ensure all his actions were within guide lines.

And the guide lines are set by office workers who never worked in the field and were never threatened by a gun.

Exactly and he is drug and alcohol tested also. There is always a coronial inquest to follow and if he/she is found to have steped outside his training without just cause or used non authorised equipment then he could be liable to criminal or civil action. There are no pats on the back and whisky all round in Australia and they live with it for the rest of thier lives.

Not always too much or OTT. The problem to be avoided is that the guilty do not get away with crime just because it seems obvious who was in the ‘right’ (and wrong) One cannot decide quickly and without all the facts if a thorough investigation is needed or not. Really, that is only clear after the investigation, not before. One person’s view is always incomplete.

Bring Thaksin back. Any slime ball caught with a gun and stolen goods gets taken to the woods and exterminated.

In a city of 12mill people this is very good way to cull and free up the courts.

Same in the US. My brother was a police officer for 25 years and my nephew has been a police officer for 18 years. They tell me the same thing, in an incident like this, the investigations will last all day and if someone is killed, maybe two or three days.

ya, bring back mr T and have him 'taken to the woods and exterminated'

"Thief gunned down" Headlines sound like the BIB just simply exterminated him. A little dramatic I think why not just simply say thief shot during robbery? All for 200 baht worth of gold.

No, he was shot during a shot-out following the crime the two robbers carried out.

Extrajudicial is when a group of masked officers go into the slums and start shooting gangmembers at sight. Or capture a crook and then shot him at the side of the road. Very different thing than this.

i doubt that is correct.

at $1569.18 per ounce that would be a speck of gold

From the original story above "Two robbers robbed 200 baht weight of gold" about $6.50 AUD wouldn't even get you a feed at Macca's

baht is not only the cash you carry round - it is a Thai unit of mass for gold.

It is around 15 grammes

The Thai Gold Traders pricing today is 23,058.36 baht per baht-weight for gold ornaments so the robbery was about 4.6 million baht. Not just a speck :)

Happy New Year - or Sawasdee Phi Mai everyone - unless you are a gold robber.

Also let us hope that Khun Chieochan recovers very soon. We need more of his ilk on patrol!

Thx for clearing up Baht for those who've never bought Gold in Thailand LOL

It's an unspoken rule that if you shoot at Police in Thailand they'll do their best to kill you.

Good for the community that turned in the robbers. Maybe other would-be-robbers will think twice before attempting the crime for fear of their neighbors turning them in.

The problem in my hometown is that nobody ever tells the police what they saw. "Snitches get stitches". Stupidest thing ever in the "urban culture".

I guess they completely missed the 'weight' part in "200 baht weight of gold". :D
