I use Avast and have been for a few months. It has been great so far and is free.

Seems like my computer is alot faster after uninstalling norton as well.

So simple and best of all free I would recomend this to anyone myself and friends all use this and I have never heard of anyproblems.

... haven't got much ofan opinion of the freebies. Swear to ZoneAlarm myself - paid pro-versions because high "security", besides virus/spyware is an issue, in this little Cyber Cafe of mine.

However, I have AVG installed on some clients - claimed to be "unprotected except for virus protection".

AVG was quite easy to install, and sofar - neither I, nor any of my patron, have had a reason to complain.

So simple and best of all free I would recomend this to anyone myself and friends all use this and I have never heard of anyproblems.

how easy is norton to uninstall completely.

i uninstalled zone alarm a while back and the complcated instructions took the best part of three hours to carry out before zone alarm was completely eradicated from my system.

Norton is easy to uninstall, and it was quick.I did it , so any other 5 year old should be able to as well.

I quess that is a matter of opinion. After more than 5 years of Norton protection on many machines I have NEVER been attacked. To speed up the applications (MS Office) it is just a matter of dissableing the Plug-in option.

I used Norton for years. Two years ago I bought a special deal. I think it was two years for $19.95. This year they wanted $29.95 for one year. I uninstalled Norton and downloaded Avast. That was several months ago and I have had no problems. I do use Zone Alarm Pro.

A good friend of mine uses AVG and apparently it is very good also. He swears by it and both Avast and AVG are free.

I too never had a problem with Norton other than they wanted $29.95 to renew it. Avast updates automatically and every couple of days an audio message and a balloon tells me that Avast has installed the latest updates.

There is a fairly good write-up on un-installing NAV here:

It suggests that a user first try and uninstall using the Add/Remove facility found in Control Panel, if this fails (as it did for me), then you can download a small utility called rnav2003.exe (There is a link at the page above). It did a pretty good job of removing everything from the desktop,Internet Explorer, Program Files and the registry.

my norton expires in a few months too and i will change to a free programme.

after my experience of trying to erase zonealarm , i think its best to remove all traces of an antivirus programme before installing a new one from another company. i am not convinced that the add/remove facility will always do this thoroughly.

AVG has detected and quarantined/deleted any virus before the pay programs. My computer doesn’t slow down as much with AVG compared to Norton or McAfee and I no longer have connection problems caused by Zone Alarm with antivirus.

AVG used with a firewall and antispyware works fine for me.

Yep AVG is automatically updated daily on most days!!! With broadband in an instant

Norton Antivirus has excellent technical backing and their support infrastructure is second to none. I have been using Norton for a long time, but had a few bad experiances with it. The appliaction it self got corrupted, it did load the taskbar icon, but it was disabled and i couldn't enable it and run scan. All in all, after uninstallation, which was a nightmare, where i was loged in the box as admin, and the uninstaller kept on poping up messeges that i should log as admin becase i do not have privilages. Initially i was going to reinstall it but this had put me off completelly. Now i am happely using bitdefender (fw + av) and cant complain at all. Symantec have a good business strategy, it comes preinstalled with 3m subscription on many brands, once 3 monts are gone, if you not a computer guru you simply won't be able to uninstall it so you are stuck with us. And they do live from the great times when the "brand name" was established. There are many bettre products with less famous names and sale practics.

(gulp) i am just about to "sort out" a mates laptop,1 of the things to do being getting rid of his zone alarm pro(with antivir)..judging from the posts here & if this is going to entail manual registry edit behaviour,it could well be way over my head! Does anyone happen to know of a specialised removal tool to help with the process? Or on the flipside,any of you fancy sitting in his sordid little den and doing it for me?

Absolutely is not real!

antivir or avg or avast update 3 time for day and norton 2o3 time per week

norton recognize only 75000 malware and antivir or avast 255000!!!!!I must continue?

yes,not comparision,absolutely,avg ,avast and antivir is a lot better of norton-symantec,also because antivirus must to recognize only virus,not like symantec that want do a lot of things and finally no one thing make well
