I am a 56 year old Brit looking to obtain a "retirement" visa in Thailand, however my wife, who is also a Brit, is only 45 years old, is this going to be a problem given that she is under 50?

No. If you want her to join you she can obtain a dependent one year extension of stay based on your one year retirement extension of stay. She needs the same non immigrant O visa entry that you will require if doing the extension in Thailand and they may not be available until you have your extension of stay however.

Check with you Embassy in the UK you should be able to get a O-A visa there and she can get the dependant visa. Just a bit more paper work to do but with a multiply visa good for 2 years.

While a dependent visa is the way to go now, the OP may want to think his wife getting her own "retirement" visa once she turns 50, provided the financial requirements aren't a problem. That way, she won't have to worry about her visa options if the OP unfortunately dies or (hope this is unthinkable) -- they get divorced.

Nothing like her very own visa to make a girl feel good about turning 50!

We are currently based in Qatar, but I guess I can still do this at the Thai embassy here.

Will certainly be looking to get the better half her own visa once she turns 50, that's if she'll ever admit she actually has........wacko.png
