Grawburg Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 Only one I know is in soi ruamrudee Name?
MiG16 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Bali No no that's name of restaurant. Not suggesting u have to fly off to Bali
Jingthing Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 And when in Jomtien, check out Bali Breeze. http://balibreeze-pattaya.com/
vansaint Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 The one in ruam rudee has been shut down for over a year now, i used to go regularly. Only one i know of in Bangkok is at the indonesian embassy, more like a canteen really but the food is authentic. Anyone can go in, you have to take passport though
MiG16 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Ohhh has it???? I did wonder if it's still around. I haven't been in Bkk in more than a year and know that restaurants come and go quickly. Assumed Bali would have withstood the changes though. It has been around for many many years. That's a shame
Grawburg Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 You're telling me in a city the size of Bangkok there's not ONE Indonesian restaurant???? That's amazing. Good thing I go to Bali every couple of months.
MiG16 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 There was something in a food court somewhere But I can't remember if I'm confusing with Malaysia rather than Bkk
vansaint Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 actually you are right, 5th floor food court in MBK has an indonesian counter
ShopBoy Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 The one in ruam rudee has been shut down for over a year now, i used to go regularly. Only one i know of in Bangkok is at the indonesian embassy, more like a canteen really but the food is authentic. Anyone can go in, you have to take passport though do i need to tell security anything ? or just exchange for a pass and go in ?
Grawburg Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 actually you are right, 5th floor food court in MBK has an indonesian counter horrible...overpriced, farang food.
martijn12345 Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Thats precisely what I thought walking around there the first time. I was just simply too hungry to walk anywhere else, friends had already ordered something. So I decided to try some indonesian food... I've been going back to that shop any time I'm in BKK and have the time to go there. I've had plenty of indonesian food in Indonesia, Malaysia and back in Holland, this shop in MBK does not do 100% autentic food, but it's pretty dam_n tasty and in my opinion worth the money. I dont know the name of the dish, it's deep fried chicken in a red sauce, comes with indonesian sambal, spicy sauce. That one def. gets my vote! dam_n...now Im hungry and all the way up in Chiangrai
asanee Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 first of all INdo food as such does not exist- Indo is do big and spread around over 3000+islands-this name makes no sense. IF Dutch people praise it-they mean the stuff that is made in NL by Chinese. Or just look at the difference between Nasi Padang and Sundanese. Even pulau Java-the main island-has some 3 quite distinct kitchen/foodtypes. The surprise about why there are so few in BKK to me shows mainly unfamiliair with how TH works and what it likes- TH food is way better and superior-thus for most THai Indo food will mainly look like the very last choice if nothing is left- or cannot be avoided at all. No wonder that Bali has far more Thai restrts as BKK has Indon! Hence the Indo embassy will cater to its native workers. As a trade-off Malay food may substitute: in the Sapan kwai area-as it caters to loads of muslim tourists-has a few. Or 1 along Phetburi main rd-side of First HTL, but beyond next (with BTS) crossing, Khing Phet.
Jingthing Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 That's ridiculous. Indonesian food can be fantastic! Thais don't have many restaurants reflecting their neighbors world class fantastic cuisines and that is their (and ours if we are residents) loss. Have yet to half a half decent Vietnamese pho in Thailand. It's bizarre.
