triffid Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 I will be going to Bangkok for a couple of nights primarily to attend a function at the Oriental at a time which is going to run into the evening rush hour on a weekday. Oriental room rates are unaffordable to me. Would appreciate names of tried and tested favourites or suggestions of a moderately priced (not too far above 2k baht possible?) hotel within say 20 minutes in a taxi - even in rush hour. My priority is the room (with free wifi) and proximity to BTS. I don't have any need for lavish public facilities eg pool etc.
pauljones Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 The Oriental has boat service from the BTS Station on the river. (every 20 minutes?) Forget the taxies at rush hour & stay anywhere along the BTS line.
triffid Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 To give some detail - not to mention nuisance - I and my guest will be dressed for dinner (black tie / evening gown) so walking to the nearest BTS or boat isn't practicable. I stayed at a hotel off Sukhumvit last time - it's an annual thing - and it took an hour or more in a cab at around 5pm. (Otherwize I'd have snapped up the very good rate being offered by Ramada on Sukh 10.) Or perhaps someone could suggest an area which has feasible hotels and I'll hunt there online. As is apparent, I don't know Bangkok much. I don't mind paying up to 3000 bht.
Payboy Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Holiday Inn - Silom Road is about Baht 2K ++ on the internet and it is walking distance from The Oriental.
DocN Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Try Novotel Silom. Same location than Holiday Inn, but still cheaper and good value for money!
elshaheen Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Holiday Inn - Silom Road is about Baht 2K ++ on the internet and it is walking distance from The Oriental. Yes, Silom road area has many fine hotel, mostly suited for those who like to spend a little more money on accomadations. Deciding on a hotel depends on your budget and what you expect from a hotel. If it's a room with a bathroom and maybe a balcony. I would suggest you go online and do a search yourself. Good day,
LAKRA Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 If you're not too fussy and require basic accommodation there is the Swan hotel just at the back of the Oriental. Certainly the closest you will get..
triffid Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 Thanks. I'll look online in the Silom area - starting with Holiday Inn and Novotel.
