I was in the bank waiting for half an hour to get something done, and was thinking, 'why don't I have a smart phone to surf the net when I'm stuck in these stupid situations?'

I have 3bb wifi available pretty much anywhere I go, so I'm just need a cheap phone that can tap into that and a halfway decent screen so I can surf the net. Any help would be highly appreciated.

I was on the bus and I saw an ad for the Gnet phones, I'm assuming that they target lower income people in Thailand. They had some nice looking smart phones, pretty much a duplicate for iPhone 4, running on Android. Maybe you should check it out, I'm sure they have a website...just google Gnet.

iPhone 3GS 12,900 new from the apple online store http://store.apple.com/th/product/IPHONE3GS_8GB

probably not the cheapest but the best browser for the price for sure.

You can also sell it on a year from now whereas the Wellcom you probably have to throw in the trash... TCO might be lower...

Does the 3gs have flash now?

how can it have the best browser if you can't see flash websites?

A99 selling for 4,500b 2nd hand. 3gs 7,500b both priced at Mbk last week

What's Flash?

Seriously ... no phone for 4,500 baht "can do" Flash. It's been a while since I followed this topic - as Flash is slowly sliding into well-deserved oblivion - but I think in 2010 the newest and greatest Android phones had trouble running Flash stutter-free, it would absolutely kill the battery, and there were many errors displaying Flash.

Android 4.0 ICS has Flash support, but couldn't find any actual reviews of it Googling just now - I think that alone shows how irrelevant Flash has become. Where are the breathless reviews? I imagine it will be gone from Thai websites relatively soon too... too many people use iPads and iPhones and anything that can be done in Flash can also be done in HTML5...

Interesting--do you have any experience having this company ship to Thailand? No worries about getting dinged for a huge customs bill?

I haven't ordered from these guys. was just using it as an example of its gaming capabilities.

I've ordered several a5000's (previous generation) from a company off alibaba and received them no problem. once charged 700baht total for 2 using thaipost to chiang mai... another time wasn't charged anything when ordering one to lamphun through DHL...mobiles are SUPPOSED to be duty exempt.... but thailand fragged me by calling it " electronics " (not the shipper...it was clearly marked mobile phone).

i'll shoot you a pm regarding the company i dealt with... can't guarantee them, but have ordered from them twice with no issue...

I don't know to much about flash.. but i just tried my phone a Zte Blade 2.3 gingerbread (5,000b) and it will not load a Full flash website BUT it will show flash addons (on the DTAC website)

And my Samsung tab P1010 wifi (2.2 8,995b) will load full flash sites.

So rather than saying blah blah blah

just say ok the ipad etc CANNOT do ANY flash content.

But yes hopefully you are correct about HTML5

Can we try to avoid the Apple vs. Android discussion here. The two sides will never agree. It's a bit like the Middle East situation. Apple views in the Apple subforum please. B)

The customs duty on a mobile phone shouldn't be more than 7 percent or so.... But best to avoid shippers like FedEx and DHL...and go USPS Global Priority or Express.... Still insured and trackable, but likely lower costs...

As for Flash, yes, it's slated to be phased out in the mobile world in favor of HTML 5.. But that hasn't happened yet... And there are still tons of web sites out there using Flash to develop their content... So if I was buying a new mobile today with the intent of using it for web browsing, I'd certainly want a phone that at least is Flash capable...

My wife just got an Android OS Samsung Galaxy SII...not a budget model like the OP requested... But she's watching YouTube Flash videos on it constantly... the novelty factor, I think....

Well, Flash is outdated and never was a web standard. Even Adobe recently stopped development for mobile devices.

But I can assure you, most of your favorite pr0n sites with flash videos work well on iphones/ipads.

Now that they're pushing the S2 and the Splus, the Samsung Galaxy S is down under 8000 baht new.

Same big screen it always had (better screen than anything until the iPhone 4 came out).

Also no issues about being stuck on an old version of Android as so many people have one that ICS has been ported to it already (although not an official "supported by Samsung" version)

Why would you want to throw a perfectly good phone in the trash? I still have the A88 - it's 2 years old and working fine.

Agree, my iPhone 1 still does all that I need a 'phone to do, more in fact.

Rather than start a new topic thought I'd piggyback on this one. Am also interested in a smartphone under Baht 10,000 and have been looking more closely at the following: Samsung Galaxy Cooper, Xperia Neo V, Xperia Ray, LG Optimus Hub, LG Optimus Sol, HTC Salsa. Anyone out there with recent experience - pros and cons - with any of these?

thanks, RS

Just bought a galaxy gio, same specs as the cooper but slightly smaller screen (3.2 vs 3.5" same resolution).

7500 after some hagling...

works a charm as entry model...

I'm going with the A7272 as soon as I get my paypal sorted, found it for $120 + $30 shipping thanks to boardmember happysanuk above.

Mke sure that you can get full access to android market with this phone.many Chinese phones cannot. also what about rom upgrades, warranty etc.

also it seems it will only work on 2100mhz 3g. so you would be limited to TOT (very poor coverage and plans) or be waiting for the long awaited 2100mhz 3g auction.

http://szbonon.com/product/484.html

hmm but then another website says 850 mhz AND 2100MHZ 3G ... THE FUN OF BUYING FROM CHINA WHERE THEY EVEN COPY THE COPIES

The i695 above seems to have a decent feature set for a low-price smart phone...

But I've never heard much about the build quality of I-Mobile's phones....

Tried a recent Wellcom model once at one of the mobile fairs a year or so back... Looked good...good price.... good feature set... But tried the camera... and the picture quality was terrible.

A friend is very pleased with his wildfire s - why not buy a 7in tablet, the older Samsung is till going strong and available 2nd hand then you can use it on your 3bb, have a huge (in comparison) 7inch screen and keep your existing phone.

That's the good thing about buying local.. you can try it. I'm hoping that I-mobile will be doing some deals at the upcoming mobile expo at the end of the month.
