I do recall that Whirlpool model with groove doors (several at different sizes) and had so much trouble with door gave it away as junk rather than fix again - it was a known issue and factory offered to fix at on point. Would not keep good seal as door hole/holder was defective. Believe it was the 14cf model that had issues.

I have a Samsung bottom freezer and believe there are more than the two firms for sale here now.

As for drink cooler every local store/restaurant in Thailand has one or more. You can buy from many shops selling shelving/refrigerators for stores. In Bangkok I pass one on Latphao Road at about Soi 91 (on same side as Foodland but about a block West). If you want expensive imported Hi-So mini units believe department stores or Verasu will have.

How about beverage coolers, nice enough to have in living room or outdoor patio. Anyone know where to get in Thailand ?

Went to Makro today and these were the two “smallest” I could see there.

Depending on where you reside, Makro has a bit different selection. I’m currently upcountry so this was at Makro Surin.

I still think I’ve seen a smaller size in Pattaya, close to the one in your picture, but not sure… unsure.png

I can confirm I saw smaller ones in Makro Pattaya last week, inside the store.

Yes they have freezers at the bottom. Most refrigerators the doors are reversible.

Not in Thailand they're not. I've seen a few. Last one was at Boonthavorn.

Where in Boonthavorn?

I have sent an email to Panasonic addressing this question and I notice that is where there (Panasonic) factory/head office is located.

I saw it at the Pattaya store

It is interesting to read what comes out of the woodwork about different types of refrigeration.

To answer a couple of questions:

It is for a condo so not enough room for a double door model

YES i DO HAVE A WIFE TO GET THINGS FROM THE FRIDGE BUT i DONT WANT HER TO GET IN THE WAY WHILST i AM COOKING AND CLEANING.

Well at this stage it looks like the Electrolux or nothing, I am amazed there is not a greater demand for fridges with doors that open from the right hand side.

It would seem TiT prevails and the consumer takes it or leaves it.

Panasonic, Toshiba and Hitachi no response to emails on the subject either not interested or the email (in english) was too challenging, thanks for all of the feedback - three cheers for Electrolux as they not only answered but provided details maybe I am biased but I bet there was a farang involved.intheclub.gif

My refrigerator opened on the left, with the freezer on top. I just turned the whole thing upside down.

Now it open's on the right and the freezer in on the bottom. It's that simple folks. burp.gif

Does it work? rolleyes.gif

Friend of mine in the UK had one of those small under the worktop sized ones and he put it on its back (with bricks at each end) and that worked. Used it as a beer fridge during the summer. Come to think of it, it was at a slight angle so what was the top was a little higher.

Havie received direct response from Electrlux Thailand who have advised they will be marketing such a refrigerator est 400ltr in April of this year 2012.

model EBM4307SB 400 ltr or 14.1Q with the door opening from the left.

Size 700x1720x735 mm Price will be approx 50000 bahts

Note the terminology "opening from the left"

I believe this comes from the action of using your left hand to open the door which on opening swings in an arc from right to left.

Electrolux are the only company that provided a response - all other major brands were contacted but "no respnse" received to date.

I am amazed at the approach by major appliance outlets - standard response "no such item avaiable" not showing any interest in checking with their suppliers. TiT for sure. cowboy.gif

I suspect most of the others do not charge 50,000 baht for a 14cf fridge either. Could be the add a bit to the email response team with such a price?

My fridge opens from the left..............

That is the normal way

Are you sure they understood your question?

A google of Left hand fridge brought up

Astral yes they understood - When you say your fridge opens from the "left" yes it swings in an arc from left to right - the link you provided for a "left" hand fridge SEG brand is exactly what I am looking for the door swings from right to left (hinges are on the left) it also has a bottom freezer - note the price 1340 Pounds.

I will google SMEG and see if anything appears for Thailand. If you google the Electrolux number I have provided in my earlier post you will notice the door swings from right to left - because you operate the door with your left hand they term this as a left hand fridge!!

Once again thanks for the input.cowboy.gif

Lopburi3 I don't know another source for the same refrigerator was 59000x7% - The 50000 was a price from Electrolux Thailand but actually delivered to the kitchen Who knows

I am amazed it is so difficult to obtain an item that suits the ergonomics of the kitcher. Especially with the amount of Condos here in Thailand I can get away with the mass supply right hand opening from the left hand arc (using your right hand) I know this sounds doble dutch but that is how they describe them. Maybe I should just go back to PNG where they would throw the door away and turn the fridge up to maximum 555.

of course it works. for a few days. then the compressor is gone because no lubricant.

Naam of course you are on the right track in fact you should not lay a fridge down even when moving.

During moving because the fridge is taken past the vertical plane on those special trolleys when it reaches its destination and slid (or walked) into place you should let the fridge sit for at least 1 hour before switching on.

My fridge is a 11 year old 17cf whirpool. It came with an extra set of hinge brackets so that the door could open from the left or right. The doors have no external handles they are resesses in the top of the fridge door and the bottom of the freezer door. After reading this thread, I located the brackets and after futzing around for and hour and six screws later the door opened the other way. Looking at the fridge with all of the do hickey's reattached you could see no difference. Retirement does get a little boring at times,so I left it that way!

My wife came home later with groceries and I was in the other room, listening. At first there were a few grunts and then it got a little louder #@&%*((%#!@%$%^%^&^&*&$$ and she came in and asked me why I had "locked" the fridge.. I said that I didn't and calmly got up and opened it. After being called everything in the book, I changed it back the next day.

Lopburi33 said that he remembered having one like this a few years ago and the door was a problem and he finally trashed it. I guess I started the clock ticking. I don't know if they are still avaiable, but it was/is a good and economical concept so I doubt it!

Wayned - love your story I am still chuckling.

Well time for a news update - Found a refrigerator that opens from the left and the right also freezer on the bottom Brand "Sharp" believe it or not on display at Power Buy in Khon Kaen 35000bahts only 11 cubes. and the door mechanism although working well felt very strange - so they are available - also compliments to the Thai staff at this store they could not do enough for me - explanation, brochures etc etc.

Again at 33k for 11cf it appears to be a very heavy price factor.

Believe the door problem I had was specific to that model/size and manufacture (Whirlpool is a brand name - they do not make products anymore from my understanding). In fact they sent two people around about six months after purchase but as they had no ID proof or made any advance contact were not allowed entry to fix/replace as this is often a mode to enter buildings. It was only much later that I noted reports of problems so suspect they were for real. I can say we started to have problems soon after using (weight in door shelves caused door to move and seal to allow air entry). No amount of tightening would solve it.

I am the guy who did the first post a few years ago. The only company I found with an opposite swinging door was Whirlpool.

Because there was no cut-away on the left side top, I needed to make a little bracket, and drill two holes on the top, but all of the other hardware was reversible.

I needed a reverse door so that I didn't have to access the fridge from my bathroom!

It's medium size - 8.1cf, and I paid 8500bt. Works great - now 4 years...

Oh yes - it is a two door, freezer on top...

I have a large Panasonic bottom freezer unit. I bought it at Tesco Lotus about seven years ago. The doors open from the left side. The doors are not reversible.
