Most of the ladies have left Chiang Mai and now returned to the home village. My village in Surin province has nearly everyone back apart from a few that are trying other places of "Interest". Scouts have been sent to Siem Reap and relaying news of large numbers of Farangs.

What do you expect the boss of the TAT to say? ...That tourist numbers are down?! Give the man a break.

Sorry, but there really has been a recovery in visitor numbers. The Australian visitor count remained steady in large part because of increased flights. Phuket saw one of its best Christmas seasons in years and the airport is still at over capacity. Not everyone flies into Bangkok anymore. More and more charter flights are going straight to Phuket. Yes, some EU economies are in rough shape and this impacted tourist numbers, but Scandanavians are still coming in large numbers and the Russians are now a very important tourist group that spend alot of money. The Japanese are back too. I hadn't seen too many Japanese visitors in the past two years, but they were out an about this year in Phuket. The flights to and from Hong Kong are usually at full capacity and these people ahve money.

WOW it is now "Beautiful Thailand" Nothing like a terrorist threat to whoo the tourists back. Can't wait for the stats to be released, new record numbers flocking to Beautiful Thailand. What have they done with all the rubbish that is dumped in every street and waterway and littering the foreshores, the soi dogs that roam around looking like rabid mongrels, the constant smog and smoke from everyone burning and all the run down dirty and black looking buildings. Wouldn't it be an idea to clean the place up just a little before you call it beautiful?

As you say before Christmas. But the Terrorist warning came out after Christmas and tourism is now down from all the countries you mentioned.

PM Yingluck asking the Americans to drop the Credible Terrorist alert, stating that it is damaging Thailand's image and tourism.

I like Thailand too, very nice place, friendly and kind people. True, It is beautiful.

would someone teach the knob ends at the TAT basic math please. A 26% increase on 19 million does not = 19.5 million

Maybe last year's target was less than 16 mill

For 2012, the TAT is targeting more than 19.5 million international arrivals, a 26% increase over last year’s target

Maybe an "accidental" typo and meant to be 2.6%

With all the warnings from countries around the world in relation to the floods, the outbreak of Malaria, Dengy Fever, Bomb and Terrorist threats etc. I think the Deputy Governor of TAT, Mr Sansern Ngaorungsi has lost the plot. Similar to the Terrorism warning made earlier.

Amazing... how people on TV have twisted view of reality?

I was at the Airport on Saturday (arrival) and Thursday (departure) and the longest lines at immigration et. I have ever seen... Is this not a proof that tourists are actually coming to BKK?

May not be from Europe and Americas but still from Asia... Anybody heard that the future is in Asia? wai.gif
