Why is it that many of the shows in Thailand start and end on quarter hours (i.e. go from 7:15-7:45)? I'm from the US where this is virtually unheard of. Maybe this is more common in other countries? I already find it difficult sometimes to tell when a Thai show is beginning or ending, but then when they're going at all these weird times I find it as a minor annoyance, but maybe just because I'm used to everything starting on the half hours.

I'm just curious if there's reasoning behind this or if its another one of those Thai things.

Rougly speaking, news on the hour. For example, take a look at the Channel 5 TV Listings - today you have news (ข่าว) at 3.00, 8.00, 12.00, 14.00, 16.00, 18.00, 20.00 (lasting 15') , 22.05 (!!), and 23.59.
