So Cold! Hot Water Bottle?

Recommended Posts

This is too cold for me I really can't take it. Does anyone happen to know where I might be able to buy a hot water bottle? I haven't seen any anywhere. Even at school I can't take my coat or scarf off until about lunchtime and am having to hug mugs of hot water.....

Reminds me of England!

Most drug stores do sell them I know for a fact the drug store on the fourth floor at the Airport Plaza has a wide selection of hot water bottles or known as hot packs in Thailand.

But the quality of these hot packs in Thailand are rubbish. I purchased 2 in the last 3 months, both began to leak within the first 2 weeks.

Luckily I have a cousin in the States who sends me a new hot water bottle every year.

My advice is; that if you have friends or family abroad, ask them to post one onto you, or try one of these home grown bed warmers pictured below:

Peera Pharmacy, run by the "two sisters" across from Hotel M (the old Montri Hotel) has both hot water bottles and a nifty electric heating pad for about 1500 baht.

I looked a couple weeks ago because our poor cat is very cold in the mornings. He won't get out of our bed until the last person arises. Normally, he's up with the first to play games. Once up, he sits under his favorite lamp, crying, until we turn it on. It's an incadescent work lamp that I use when I do needlework. The light is so warm, it could be used to keep French fries warm at McDonald's. I thought the kitty would love a heating pad. We had one in the U.S. that we put in the cat's bed, under quilting and she was very grateful. Hubby, the spoilsport, pointed out that the cat in the U.S. was nearly 20 years old and we heated our home to just 55 deg F in the winter. The cat here is 1.5 yr old and is shivering with 70 deg temperatures. He also said that even the female Thai pharmacist laughed at my plan, and normally they're pretty indulgent with pets.

Anyone know where I can buy cat clothing in Chiang Mai? I've seen cats wearing them here, but they were bought in Bangkok at the weekend pet market.

Krupnik, Is this some sort of early April fools joke ?The MIN temp in Chiang Mai at night is about double the MAX temp right now in a lot of European countries. At noon today when I was swimming it was 28 degrees. dear oh dear I do feel sorry for you.

They sell them at most walking street markets and at many of the larger pet shops. My cats have also been freezing lately in the mornings; even with their clothes on!

Most of the local cats & dogs in our village are wearing small-childrens' cast-offs, they're very fashionable, you know ! Imagine a Miss-Kitty T-shirt on a kitty-cat ! wub.pngbiggrin.png

No joke. Yes I trust you - the reason I left Europe was because I couldn't take the cold. The difference though is that in England we have things like central heating and radiators. Places are made warm for you with open fires and such like. But here everywhere is prepared for only hot weather. We are used to hot weather here that's why this cold snap is a real shock to the system for me!

Purchased a hot water bottle yesterday for 95 BAHT at a local chemist. Not sure how long it will last but I slept warmer and better last night....

A post using Thai/English has been removed. Please refrain from posting like this as it is against forum rules and well, looks silly. wink.png

Apologies to those non-thai speaking expats out there. Post amended as requested, for all to understand.

After living here for many years I have acclimatised, the upside being I no longer need air conditioning in the summer, just a padlom. The downside is do feel the yen/now (cold) like the Thais.

As a hot water bottle user and full time resident, I am experienced in local hot water bottles. And I have not had any ben-ha (problem) with any locally purchaced hot water bottles. I admit when I was a newbie I used one made of plastic and incurred a few wet nights. Since then I know to only use the rubber (yang) variety, I recommend Pharmachoice. These last me long time (My last one lived to a ripe old ayuu (age) of 4 bee (years)!

I wouldn't bother having family send them over, from the states etc, as Bettlejuice said, they only tend to last a year. Possibly due to our tropical climate.

Cheers for the info. Yeah, everyone acclimitases I think? my friends are here from England and last night they were wearing summer dresses with just a cardigan while I am sitting there in jeans, jumpers, scarves etc and still cold. I'm a cold person anyway. On the upside, no matter how hot it is I can deal with the temperature it is never too hot for me.

Anyway, hopefully my hot water bottle will last me. Still contemplating getting a small heater!

This is the heater I got at Global House a few years ago. Brand name Solar - heated oil radiant heater with blower. Around 1500 Baht and they had a larger size around 2100 Baht. When I looked at the ones at Central they were crazy expensive, stylized models.

Thanks Tywais. Actually, where is Global House?

Bought a plug in one for the Mrs. Quite good, and less than 200 baht. Its is pre-filled (oil I think) and has a removable plug in the centre and power light. Heats up in less than a miniute (no scalding water - and can be plugged back in when it cools). I bought it at the little electronics shop in Big-C on CM Hod (between Airport Plaza and Macros Hang Dong. Walk in the main front dorr (where the clothes and massage stalls are) and it's straight ahead. It was leopard skin look, and feel (soft but not fluffy fur to stop burning without tickling). Personally I don't like them, but thgey are good for backache or pulled muscle (or apparantly period pains)

Global House is a great place - much cheaper than Home-Pro and lots more to choose from too (especially tools and real DIY stuff). From Airport Plaza, head towards Hang Dong (away from the city), at Big-C (on the left), chuck a left turn and keep going, past the footbal pitch, over the first flyover and you will see a big sign on your left as you approach. Like Macros' they check your stuff on the way out, so keep the receipt handy. Always get a lovely smile from the girls there too biggrin.png (very over staffed) - good for cheap doors and wood to - they have a builder's yard and cutters at the back. I also but those platic boards there too - for temp signs etc - they sell them in Big-C and Lotus for about 40 baht, in GH they are 12 baht! And you can get 6 foot sheets too.

That's what I use for my neck pain. The shop you are talking about is called Amorn. Actually it is filled with gel. I paid 99 Baht for mine about 2 years ago on sale. I was skeptical... but it lasted and is still in perfect condition and is very safe. For a Chinese product it is made quite well. I used it almost daily for over a year and I still use it when the neck hurts. It heats up in about 5 minutes and stays hot for more than 3 1/2 hours.
