BANGKOK, Jan 23 -- Over 2 million methamphetamine pills, 30 kg of crystal metaphetamine or ice, and 20 kg of heroin worth billions of baht found during police search of a rented house in Pathum Thani.

The search came after Highway Police tried to arrest a suspected drug dealer on Friday at Phra-in Racha sluice gate in Khlong Raphipat in Bang Pa-in district of Ayutthaya but during the getaway the suspect's sedan lost control and fell into a canal between the motorway. The driver managed to escape as police found two bags of ice weighing three grams an ID from an organisation bearing the name of Mr Nipon Kanchart and a name card of a Lieutenant General.

Pathum Thani Provincial Police Deputy Superintendent Pol Lt Col Jirawat Naewchampa said there was no one in the rented house but there was a car parked on the premises.

During a search of a room under the stairs, police found over 2 million methamphetamine pills wrapped in packs, more than 30 packages of ice at one kg per package and more than 20 packages of heroin also at around one kg per package.

Police estimated that the illicit drugs worth billion baht of street value.

According to an initial investigation, Mr Nipon rented the house for Bt20,000 per month from a former beauty queen and TV star.

Provincial Police Bureau 1 Commissioner Pol Maj Gen Kamronvit Thoopkrachang has inspected the seized drugs and reported to Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubumrung. (MCOT online news)

Police seized a large haul of speed pills and crystal methamphetamine, or ya ice, worth more than one billion baht during a raid on a house in Pathum Thani’s Thanyaburi district.

Police obtained a search warrant from the Thanyaburi court and yesterday raided a two-storey house at the Sammakorn housing estate on Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road as part of an investigation that began on Friday into the alleged use of a fake vehicle licence plate.

The house belongs to actress Jarinya Hannarong but she rents it out to tenants.

Jarinya said she had nothing to do with the case and complained that the disclosure of her name could damage her reputation.

Police found 3,864,000 methamphetamine pills and 71kg of crystal methamphetamine hidden in a small room under a staircase, said Pol Maj Gen Kamronwit Thoopkrachang, acting chief of Provincial Police Region 1.

No one was at home when police arrived. The drugs have an estimated street value of over one billion baht.

Pol Maj Gen Kamronwit said the case began after a man, whose name was not disclosed, spotted a white Toyota Camry car bearing the same licence plate number as his car and alerted highway police to intercept it.

30kg? nah.. price won't be affected. It costs 40k bhat to manufacture 1kg of ice, takes 1.5 days, and sells for close to 80 times more.

IN 2007, Gatun seizure found 19,000kg of cocaine on a ship by US coast guard and price of cocaine on streets remained the same. Seen an interesting Discovery show about it that illustrated the uselessness of the war on drugs.

Such collateral damage is cause by the fact that the drugs' price is high, which is cause by the fact that they are illegal.

Treat it as a medical problem rather than an enforcement one and 90% of the negative consequences go away.

Unfortunately alcohol and tobacco's real health effects are huge in and of themselves. Of the two of course alcohol has much wider negative affects due to increased out-of-control behavior.

The use of private automobiles is also a huge killer we seem entirely willing to pay the price for. . .

Clearly, this is a sign that renting one's house is a moral risk and all renters should therefore be cleared by police on a monthly basis before being allowed to re-occupy their homes. If no one rented homes, no one could keep drugs in rented homes...

Police Unlink Former Actress to Drug Case

Police believe in the innocence of a former beauty queen who has denied involvement with narcotics worth nearly a billion baht found in her rental house.

Acting Commissioner of the Provincial Police Bureau 1 Police Lieutenant General Kamronwit Toopkrajang called a meeting with his subordinates to discuss the discovery of 3.8 million methamphetamine pills and crystallized meth worth nearly a billion baht during a raid at a house in Pathum Thani Province.

The house belongs to Jarinya Hannarong, a former beauty queen and actress, and has been rented out since August last year to Nipon Kanchart, who is wanted on drug-related charges.

Kamronwit said that after questioning, Jarinya appeared to have nothing to do with the narcotics. She showed police the rental contract and said she does not know much about her renter.

Moreover, it has been disclosed that the van found during the raid has fake military-issued license plate, possibly to fool the police while transporting drug shipments.

A high-ranking military officer's identification card was also found inside the van. The officer will be summoned for questioning.

The police commander also said that Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung has ordered the police force to give priority to the case as it may involve a major drug ring.

At the same time, the Anti-Money Laundering Office has been asked to investigate Nipon's financial records.

The authorities believe his bank accounts hold a large amount of cash as he is suspected to be involved with a major drug cartel in the northern part of the country.

The suspect is believed to still be hiding in the country.
