any chain rental agency with offices throughout thailand, if not the world, will allow you to take vehicles off the island.

samui based operators are not so generous. i've used avis, hertz and thai rent and taken them all off the island.

Budget used to go as far as giving out maps for various driving tours around the Kingdom! Some of the local hirers will do it as well, but you need to tell them up front.

I just rented a car from Budget. A new Civic, the cheapest they had at 2780B per day! Wasn't very impressed with the service. Their website shows a load of different options at different prices. When i got to the branch at the arrivals hall, they just said this is all we have. Can't believe they rented all of those others out in that morning leaving only these sort of prices.

There was an Indian guy complaining about how the website shows cheaper options avaliable.

Anyway, i took it. I have to pay the bill at the airport in Phuket when i drop it off tomorrow. Also have to pay a 3000B collection fee as im dropping it off in a differen branch.

Something wrong here. Whenever you inquire on the Net, it refers you to a call centre. I am also pretty sure there is no extra for dropping it off somewhere else.

Nope, nothing wrong here Rooo. If you use the website kosamuiairportcarrental.com they show you prices from 5 different companies, of which budget is included.

Again, yes there is a charge of 3000B for dropping it off at a different location. I don't know how i can word that any clearer? There is a charge. They told my wife this on the phone, then they told me this at the desk, then they showed this on the bill. So your "pretty" sure there is no extra charge. Whereas i am very sure there is.wai.gif

i am just interested why ask the question on thai visa rarther than asking avis. direct.

in a word the answer is YES

in a few words all national car rentals you can take anywhere in thailand if u rent under the daily limit then they may charge you fordropping the car anywhere other than where you rented from if depending on the company i think that hertz is 5 days avis and budget is 7. though they do change then the dropping charge is free.

It would be easier to type in Avis Thailand into your google engine. Avis are more expensive but they all offer number 1 inssurance and i have crashed into the back of a mercedes in Bangkok and di not have to pay a thing

Most car rental companies are charging a drop off fee. Unless there is a special offer or a longer rental period. I also had an extra charge, if I had the car delivered to my place instead of picking up at the airport.

Hertz had a special offer in December. 800THB per day for a Honda City incl full insurance. But I could only book via call center and prepayment by creditcard. I saw a similar offer on their website for February. It's worth to check out the rates at the airport and their BKK office. Usually not the same. Got very good experience with Thai Rent a car and Hertz. Good cars and good service. Was not very pleased with Avis.

Car was delivered/picked up a bit late and smelly.
