PM Yingluck's Upcountry Tour Is Little More Than A Publicity Stunt

It is a reasonable thing to do - but don't forget the criticism on this forum is from the dedicated Yingluck bashers, seen through the distorting prism of The Nations Editorial!

Oh if only Khun Mark had won!

Khun Mark was a far better PM but was hamstrung by his need to form a Coalition government with the usual suspects. Its amazing what he achieved given the circumstances and a testament to his leadership abilities. While Yingluck has the advantages of a majority government who formed a coalition to increase their vote and still have to force policies through via emergency decrees. This is because she is hamstrung by a severe lack of skill and ability at leadership, a control freak of a brother and a party of egocentric individuals all fighting for a share of the spoils by working their own agendas. I feel she is a reluctant clone PM.

Perhaps your other eye needs adjustment, as well. Take a look at the other paper's editorial. Coincidence, media conspiracy... Or valid comment?

Interesting editorial, I cant see a rational for this trip except they want Yingluck out of Bangkok for the week.

criticism in this case comes from those with fewer ideas than the PM... agree with Oberkommando.

"fewer ideas than the PM"

Is that possible ? I thought all her ideas came from Dubai ? rolleyes.gif

The article doesn't mention whether the PM will be visiting Chiang Mai, but that would explain the rash of square red flags which suddenly adorn my local road into town, a reminder of the people who helped her into power, and are now looking for payback. cool.png

In another article it listed 33 provinces in 4 days.

Really going to take the time to meet and get to know her people.

I doubt if she wil even see one devastated home from the flood.

Certainly she will, out of the window of her plane or helicopter, from a safe distance ! laugh.png

33 provinces in 4 days is not "visited" it is "passed through." 3 (or even 4 if they havn't yet upgraded her chopper for night flight) may get her august presence overnight, the others are down to minutes rather than hours.

When I stop to refuel the bike, perhaps linger for a bite and a crap, I don't claim to have visited. Perhaps if I waved to people as I rode through.

Thanks for taking the time to decipher The Nation's drivel. Interestingly, VoiceTV didn't glamorize the trip but just gave the agenda - I'm starting to think that they are less biased than The Nation.

<snip>

The OP is an EDITORIAL, not a news report.

I assume she is heading off down south next week to discuss her governments plans to deal with floods down there.

Apart from the other English language papers, several Thai papers have criticised this tour.

The constant Yingluck bashing from the Nation is becoming tedious.

Much as is the rhetoric from the ministers in this maladministration.

Criticism comes with the position she was shoehorned into,.

Well there is one element totally missing.

Where's the needed research, proper analysis of historical data. And where's the input from the learned academics and practitioners who were initially sidelined in the last debarcle but listened to when the debarcle got overwhelming and yingluch (dubai?, or perhaps he was so silent becaue he was counting his blood diamond income), the science minister, the justice minister(?) etc., where desperate for some help and eventually listened. Where are these people now. And where's the open public discussion which yingluch talked about earlier?

Where's the transparency? Are we going to see detailed reports of all of the meetings over the next days?

with apologies to Julius Caesar, and those posters who really do believe, that looking 'hot' is all that 'Poster Girl' needs, to qualify her for her latest job.

How about touring Nonthaburi, Bang Yai and Bang Bua Tong and explaining to us why the klongs are nearly overflowing in February!!

Usually these waterways are nearly empty at this time of year. Currently they're half a metre from going over their banks.

Some of Nonthaburi has surface flooding. There hasn't been a lot of rain (never is in Feb)

Nobody expects miracles but an explanation would be helpful.

This government shows zero concern for it's people - disgraceful

You don't think the water maybe released from the Dams in the early part of the year that they may be better equipped to contain the later rains

I have no doubt the waterways you mention were dry last February........

This trip may be looked at as "busy work", one of those chores to get the ineffective out of the way, so the wheeler dealers can go about their business. This type of exercise seems what she is best/experienced at and she will probably do less harm on the road than contributing to any meaningful discussion.
