Visiting Krabi For The First Time.

Featured Replies

On my next trip to Thailand I'm considering Krabi for a relaxing beach holiday.

Air Asia Bangkok to Phuket return on their promo fares is almost half the cost in comparison to Bangkok to Krabi return on promo.

Is it worth traveling to Krabi via ferry from Phuket?

Is this part of the journey scenic and an experience, or am I better off flying directly to Krabi and spend more time relaxing?

Any thoughts are welcomed.

Also, as Krabi covers a large area.

Which specific place should l consider staying at which would also include close access to beaches, markets, nightlife, and tourist connections?

You can take a boat to phi phi and then continue to Krabi. Worth it, in my opinion but if you are older phi phi might be boring. It is mainly 20 somethings from australia and scandinavia. We had a good time with some hot swedish girls. Boats depart from chalong pier on the south tip of Phuket. No need to book tickets, just organize a ride to the harbor early and buy a ticket there. If phi phi is boring you can leave for ao nang, good spot to grab a bungalo or hotel and then travel around Krabi by moped, walk or taxi. Koh Lanta is near and worth a visit as well.

Can you go directly to Ao Nang from the tip of Phuket as well?

Once you are out of Phuket, it's only an hour and a half to two hours ground transportation to Ao Nang. I think the taxis from Phuket airport to Krabi run about 2000thb (65$US).

Boat-wise it's a bit of a trip, and I believe it will be hard for you to fly in, then get down to the pier to catch the boat same day, so you are probably looking at overnighting in Phuket. But if you fancy a night in Phuket as well as a trip on the water, then there ya go, if you want a more direct route I would recommend ground.

Good advice from GOM. The ferry runs at 08.30 and 13.00 and takes a bit over 2 hours. The drive is about the same but so much more flexibility with time and you get dropped off at your hotel.

Not sure did not see the option but most likely that's possible.
