Koh Phangan Electric

Featured Replies

Just a heads up to the few of us KP'ers. Power will be off tonight from 3 am- 5am and then back on for a few hours and then off again around 9am until 5pm. :D

And I have heard that they are bringing the generator trucks back over for some work (get this) from the 17th -21st. This month. :o

I heard a rumor that something happened to the electric station in Samui where KP is linked. Flooded out and damaged perhaps?

i don;t understand what samui has to do with us! we have our own power station and it looks just fine to me.

the only upside to all these power cuts is it's nice and quiet for a few hours because all the building has to take a break (including me!)

We get our power from Samui from an underwater cable. The power station is very old and has been turned off for some years.

Sorry, they did turn it on last time they turned off the power from the mainland but it is not in general use anymore.

wait so from the 17th-21st there will be sporadic electricity? yikes- that makes it very hard for me to work :o

Tell me about it! Why do they always pick the busiest times to do this stuff?

The road in Thong Sala is a bloody nightmare since they tore it up (and have stopped working on it --that water must be a meter deep :o ) just in time for the busiest month of the year.

It would appear that there are problems with the under sea cable from the mail land agian. On the beach near where the cable comes ashore I have seen some type of light oil covering the sand!!!!

The outage was posphoned as not to interfear with the"Full Moon Party"

It will be the same as last September, and will include Koh Phangnan this time.

Last time it did include Koh Phangan too as we are connected to the mainland through Koh Samui.

Interesting to hear they are postponing it due to the FMP. Too bad we couldn't get the guys who dug up the one road that runs through Thong Sala to have postponed that too :o.

So now it has started.

We lost power right after midnight , it came back at 7 in the morning for just

2 hours.

Back again at noon with a few short brownouts during afternoon.

I'd better go and start the rice cooker now :o
