I am flying to HCM City next month, i have a quote for taxi from airport to central city of $US25. Does anyone know if this is reasonable.

the typical rip off.

When you leave the airport, ignore the touts and go to the left where you find all the metered taxi's. Insist that hey run on meter and ignore requests for additional money when you arrive at your hotel.

Make sure you have a business card or printed address from the hotel you want to go to.

you will probably pay not more then 5-6 USD.

When you leave the airport international terminal, walk to the right towards the domestic terminal. you will see a bus sitting there number 51. This goes into the city every 20 minutes and costs less than a dollar.

Not really sure that rip off applies to all of Asia. The worst problems I've had were in Vietnam. They tried to over charge upon arrival and took me to another hotel...telling me, yes, this is your hotel. No, it's not, yes, it is. Finally started yelling at the guy and he took me to the right hotel. No fun when you are getting in late and having to deal with this.

Maybe your hotel could set something up for you?

there are metered airport taxi's similar to BKK. just give the driver your location and have him drop the flag. It'll be roughly $10US or less

to district 3 and district 1 downtown area.

back in 1991, I flew into Saigon (HCM) and the taxi was $10usd then. Noibai (Hanoi) airport cabs are regulated with a flat rate, I paid

$10us a few years ago but don't know exact price now.

Have to admit being ripped off 18 months ago by taxi from the Airport to City.

After exiting arrivals be very careful as you will have lots and lots of rogue taxi

drivers touting for your fare.

My advice ALWAYS go with metered taxi -!!!!! Won't tell you how much i was ripped off for (Ouch)angry.png

but as i say be very careful.

It should be close to $10.00 from the airport to the city. My estimate is around 200,000.00 dong.

As per above, just walk to the left when you exit. I'd recommend VinaSun and MaiLinh taxi's for all trips in HCM. (White with green writing) They both have uniformed attendants with a radio at the taxi area. Both have a fleet of mainly new family seater style taxis.

Trip to anywhere in District 1 should be around 120 000 and not more than 140 000.

About 120,000 or 5 dollars was what I paid to the Dong Khoi area. The touts right out the front tried to charge me 500,000 VND for a taxi to share with 2 others and to drop us off one by one.

Last week fixed price fare was 315k dong from airport to old quarter. Guy also ran the meter, for some unknown reason and with unknown accuracy. Meter said 290k

That would be from Noi Bai to Ha Noi old quarter?

Fixed price includes the toll fees.

I am so glad that i declined the $US25 that i was so kindly offered online, and took notice of the guys in here.

The fare eventually cost me around $US6 from the airport to district 1.

Incidentially, the next time i go there i will take only $US, they are used everywhere for everything.

Lecturer Athapol Anunthavorasakul from Chulalongkorn University has highlighted that teachers only learned of this major shift a couple of months ago, sparking confusion and frustration among the academic community. The revamped curriculum will debut at the preschool and Prathom 1-3 levels, focusing on reading, writing, and maths skills as part of a lifelong learning strategy. The Office of Basic Education Commission (Obec) claims the new courses are thoroughly researched and devised in consideration of the Thai context, supported by online resources and AI tools for teachers. Despite these assurances, some educators feel overwhelmed by the short notice and additional training required to implement the new system. Under the new plan, traditional GPA evaluations are replaced with skill-level assessments, categorised as beginner, developing, proficient, and expert. This significant shift away from core subject focus to skill-based learning is viewed as a bold step to lift the nation's educational standards. However, many teachers are apprehensive, fearing an increased workload and complications in handling multiple teaching curriculums, particularly amidst transitioning students between old and new curriculum frameworks. Critics, like Athapol, argue the rollout is premature, likening it to a "hot potato" scenario where schools are left to adjust with minimal support. Educators also question why the Competency-Based Curriculum, already being trialled in some regions, was not chosen instead. Obec's Secretary-General, Thanu Wongchinda, remains optimistic, hoping the new educational approach will prepare Thai children for future challenges. If successful, the new framework could extend to senior primary and secondary school levels. Mr. Pavel, a 33-year-old Israeli businessman, was taken into custody following a police bust that uncovered his hefty rental empire worth 3 million baht (around $910,000) in profits through high rental fees charged to unknowing tourists. His base of operations was an unregistered residence in Moo 4, Koh Phangan sub-district. The operation to put brakes on Pavel’s unlawful venture was conducted by a coalition of local law enforcement and administrative bodies. Investigations revealed that Pavel's business dealings were aided by a local Thai woman, whose bank account was used to process rental transactions. Despite claiming his venture stemmed from his original real estate business, Pavel's illicit operation came to a screeching halt, leaving him in police custody awaiting further legal proceedings. Authorities raided the premises, seizing 15 motorcycles, helmets, spare keys, and a trove of business documents, including 386 lease agreements. Pavel's unpermitted venture involved the online rental of a fleet of 90 motorcycles, primarily to foreign visitors seeking to traverse the picturesque island shores.
