I'm Heading Off Soon To Ostraylia

Featured Replies

Melbourne specifically.

Just a mid-sized car... similar to a Toyota Altis or whatever they're called in Oz.

I've already done some Googling and found some leads, but I'm wondering if any of the ThaiVisa membership can provide any recommendations... :o

Duration of hire: about 10 days

Pickup from Tullamarine Airport and dropoff same place 10 days later.

Anyone?

Pity you only have 10 days. To put it into a Thailand perspective, it's a bit like coming to LOS and spending 6 days in Bangkok, 2 in Pattaya and 2 in Phuket. You are not going to see the REAL Australia in that time. You will probably get to see Melbourne, Canberra (Australia's capital city) and Sydney - but that's it.

Unless you have seen the Great Barrier Reef (the only living thing on earth that can be seen from space), Ayers Rock (Ularu), the Nullarbor Plain, the tall karri and jarrah forrests in the south-west of WA, the Pilbara and Kimberley cattle regions of north west WA ... you haven't seen much at all.

I hope your trip is a taste of Australia and you will be tempted to return to see more of my country.

Here's a couple of websites you may like to visit before you leave Thailand:

Tourism Australia

Australia.Com

Australian Tourism & Travel Network

P.S. I am sure Udon can add his 20c worth to help you. Perhaps you could drop over to his shed. :o

Cheers mate... I'm actually an Ozzie, so I have seen (and worked in) most of the country already.

Going back to Victoria to catch up with my folks whom I haven't seen in about 3 years.

I've sold up all my wordly goods back in Oz so now I'm wanting to do the rental car thing.

But... thanks for the reply. :o

And... I'll check out those lisks you posted.

:D

hi can't be very specific, but when I was in Aus I hired a car and drove from Sydney to Adelaide in it. I would make the following observations

1) It is usually more expensive to hire a car from an airport in particular they may not offer that special deal you could get in city branches and if a small airport may not have the car you really need.

2) Car hire in Oz was not expensive, I hired a Mitsubishi Magna quite a big beast not much more money than the smaller cars and necessary if you are going to drive a long way, a bigger car is just so much easier and well worth a little more, If you start talking about a smaller car and then show a bit of interest in a bigger one you may be able to get a big discount on the bigger car as they think they 'sell you up'..

3) I would get to the big city (if there is one) and trawl around the car hire majors for a special offer, they will probably be close to each other, or search the net for deal and book on net and get them to deliver car to airport, (unless deal is available at airport).

4) Once again pay a little bit more money for a bigger car.

I thought Aus was prettyy easy/reasonable for car hire.
