Look out for cars on the 'wrong' side of the road!

Have you got a passport for your car? Do you own it or will the owner be travelling with you?

The car is in my wifes name and she will be with me. What is the passport for the car?

Eyes in the back of your head, nerves of steel and the patience of a saint. You might just survive!

Car passport is just like a people passport. To avoid customs duties the car needs to be checked out and back in.

Info on the process is in this thread.

Once you have the passport you can go but the first trip take everything relating to the cars ownership with you, in Mukdahan they wont accept only the passport the first time, they want proof of ownership, no car under finance can go over. Once on the Lao side there will be an Insurance office at the Immigration area, Go and take out Insurance, 200 baht for 1 week. If you don't have it in Savannakhett with the yellow sticker on the windscreen the Lao Police will stop you and fine you maybe 1,000 baht so it is a must and if you hit some idiot on a bike you are covered and not paying through the neck.
