GOOGLE PRIVACY POLICY CHANGE. Now that GOOGLE sweep all communication with them under one tracking system does this mean that the use of Thai Visa is included in this tracking/policy system.

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong thread but my PC shows a red "phishing" warning when I try to view the "Frozen Pensions" thread on the general page.

Have a look at "Ghostery" it's an extension on Firefox & Chrome

At the moment I have 837 trackers, cookies etc blocked!

The only think that needs to be left unblocked is an Analytic called "Optimost" as it can sometime cause problems with Bank logins

This is a summary of what it does from the Ghostery site:

Ghostery sees the invisible web - tags, web bugs, pixels and beacons. Ghostery tracks the trackers and gives you a roll-call of the ad networks, behavioral data providers, web publishers, and other companies interested in your activity.

After showing you who's tracking you, Ghostery also gives you a chance to learn more about each company it identifies. How they describe themselves, a link to their privacy policies, and a sampling of pages where we've found them are just a click away.

Ghostery allows you to block scripts from companies that you don't trust, delete local shared objects, and even block images and iframes. Ghostery puts your web privacy back in your hands.

Thanks again. Just downloaded/installed on IE9...painless. For the ThaiVisa home page it shows 9 tracking sites...when I go within the forum pages it has reported 4 to 7 so far depending on the page...like right now it's reporting 7.

While installing the program my Norton 360 Firewall/AntiVirus gave below report about this new program (no virus on anything just a report it does on all new programs/files loaded).

I'm so glad I read this thread today. After installing above program I looked at my IE9 Tracking Protection settings and I did not have Tracking Protection enabled under the browser Tools, Tracking Protection, pull down menus.

When I went to the IE9 Tracking Protection area I say that I could add a variety of tracking protection lists to include the two different Abine tracking lists (a standard list and a kids lists...probably the same list(s) used in the Abine program just loaded). Plus there are a bunch of other tracking lists to load which effectively stacks tracking protection lists upon protection lists from different companies to hopefully improve tracking protection...and IE9 checks weekly for updates to the lists.

See this Link for protection lists available to integrate into IE9...got the link when going into the IE9 Tracking Protection setup area. If going to the Link be sure to read the description of the various tracking protection lists as it may be a privacy eye opener.

I thought this Part 1 and Part 2 article, and the sub link called Analysis in Part 2, on Tracking Protection in IE9 was very informative and in layman's language. Only takes a few minutes to read and well worth the read. Although written around IE9 the article is really talking tracking cookies and Tracking Protection Lists in general/probably most browsers and even mentions Firefox. Article Link

I know since enabling the Tracking Protection in IE9 and adding a couple Tracking Protection Lists (TPL) in addition to adding the Abine Do Track Plus module which can be downloaded from www.donottrackplus.com as identified by jvs in Post #6 the number of tracking cookies (all low threat) my Norton 360 AntiVirus detects during periodic scans after a few hours of surfing has dropped from around 40 to only 1. I expect there will always be a few tracking cookies to sneak through since new cookies are created all the time by various companies...and it takes a while for TPLs to update. So far after a few hours of browsing I haven't noticed any negative effects on my browsing like certain web sites not working right since maybe its tracking cookie is being blocked...but I have to wait and see what happens over the coming days of browsing.

And please don't confuse tracking cookies with viruses; tracking cookies are not viruses. Tracking cookies can be good or maybe bad; it all depends on how companies/advertisers receiving your web surfing info use the data. Welcome to the internet age where privacy is getting tougher to maintain everyday.
