A second-class air-conditioned bus with 46 seats will be used on the route until traffic warrants an upgrade in quality.

7 hours for 166 Km.

What's the average speed?

the whole trip takes 7 h

166 km is the distance from vientiane to that village .... now add the distance from udon to vientiane .... don't forget waiting time at immigration just in case stupid foreigners were unable to fill out easy paperwork

so ... 7 hours seems realistic

I think they meant VV is 166km from Vientiane?

The distance from Udon Thani to the Thai-Lao border is around 60 km and from the Lao border to Vang Vieng 190 kilometre. Overall distance is 250 km on a smooth divided highway to Nong Khai. From there driving conditions are poor.

I haven't been for many years, but do remember the roads were pretty bad. Only 2 lane roads with lots of traffic.

THere are many cheap flights arriving early in the morning to Udon Thani,

so would it not be wiser if htey departed a little later to accomodate early

morning flyers? and thus increase their passenger numbers

Udon hotels wouldn't have any of that.

Recommend an afternoon flight to Vientiane. Spend the night and enjoy. Take the 08:00 bus to Vang Vieng. You will save your bottom, time, and have more time to enjoy the better things in life during the trip.

gTV did it again! their old habit of parrotting-as do most of the posters.

1.this is not news at all-I think was announced at least twice before,

2.,BKK03 will of course also gladly refund the double fare her/his suggestion costs in total?

And also seems unaware that buses VTE-VgVg run hourly till mid-afternoon?

And that all posters seem completely unaware that this bus does not pick up at airport? and that most seem unaware that 1 simple change between the Udorn-VTE bus and onward will also do the trick-and hardly loose time? And that that ''paperwork'' is not like as in airplane-you only get the Lao forms to fill out at the bridge/border? AND that hitherto the Udorn-VTE buses thus did not take visa-less farang? AND that there is no note at all about that for this buslink?

AND that from Udorn airprt most people rushing to Lao take the minivan direct to borderbridge, do the paperwork, and then find any transport onward? And that the tipical TV-user seems only interested in visaruns-after all he cannot stay away from the Isany bargirls for too long-she might go with another! and not in the binge drinking and drunk-tubing that seems so local-style characteristic for barely wet behind the ears OZzie teener boys/girls?

Are you sure you are not high? On the same subject here?

Why do you think everyone knows this news already? First time I have read about it.

Run along and take your medication now.

I'd gladly pay a bunch more not to have to ride in one of those Lao buses you get in VTE...nor to have to deal with that bus station. It's not a nice place to visit. Nor was my non-AC bus from VTE to VV...with many sitting in the middle isle on small wooden benches.
