Kudos for the guys who leave no doubt for the consipracy theorists. Like the Norwegian (or maybe Danish) guy in Pattaya who did the deed a few months ago leaving a video specifically telling the police not to waste time looking for a killer before doing the deed on camera.

[For 33 years I have never carried any ID unless I am driving or going to the bank. Never been asked or if I was there was no consequence.

That's good. I also have lived comfortably here - for even longer - with few requests for any passport copy.

I am simply relating what the law requires and if challenged by Police to produce one it solves issues about your visa status.

Peace.

Drunks will do strange things but of more interest to me is that no ID was found on him.

I feel I should point out that unlike many other countries, Thai law says one must carry a copy (at least) of a passport or a Thai ID card - if not the original. I recommend that all foreigners get a credit card size copy of front passport page and latest visa. Costs about 60 baht to get done in plastic and easy to keep in a wallet.

Are you for real??

I guess this was the first thought on this guys mind prior to jumping/falling off a bridge onto railway lines. Shame on him for not having any I.D on him.

If I was to jump off a bridge onto a railway track to end my life I would (try to make sure it was higher than 6 metres and ) not care if I was anonymous or not.

Silly response soihok. That's not what the poster was saying, and he was saying that Thai law required foreigners to carry ID..

He merely pointed out that foreigners should carry ID in Thailand. If this guy had killed himself, and he had ID on him, imagine how much easier it would be for authorities to find family.

WONDERFULL that PattayaBangkok Hospitol would treat the guy even though he had no ID/Money on him. It is refreshing to hear good news about that place.

That is a good idea as long as the BIB will accept it. I keep my Thai drivers licence on me and the BIB are more than happy to accept that as my ID. Considering the hoops (paperwork) one has to jump through to get it :)

Are you a social worker?

Silly idealistic comment from someone who has never been around a desperate person.

Good god,....where do you people come from ?

No ID? You are surprised? Bet they didn't find any baht on him either.

So, if you are mugged the perps are going to sort through your stuff and give back your ID to help you be identified?

Find family? Oh, you mean so they could tell them to send money?

For 33 years I have never carried any ID unless I am driving or going to the bank. Never been asked or if I was there was no consequence.

In my home country, Belgium, it is also mandatory to carry an id card.

In Thailand I always have a copy in my wallet of my passport main page, visa extension and 90 days notification.

In most cases a Thai driving licence will do.

I don't know who is the most sad out of this dreadful incident.

The one who doesn;t care if his guts are spread out over the the Rayong to BKK express or the wise men saying he is wrong not carry identifiaction on him.

Good grief!!

I always carry an ID with me, that's the Thai drivers licence over here. Just in case I get into an accident. When I am overseas, I carry a namecard of the hotel where I'm staying at in addition.

But I am not suicidal. This poor soul may have not carried ID on purpose.

I don't understand this at all. Is there something wrong with a man wearing a white tshirt and brown pants?

I would like to point out that if they are really hard up for some money the BIB will refuse to accept a photocopy and require the original. While this has never happened to me a friend was fined even though he had a photocopy of his passport with him, this was after a raid on the Q bar.
