Any Trustworthy Places To Rent Motorbike In Phuket?

Where on Phuket are you staying?

I would not worry about getting charged for damage you did not cause, as LIK has said, make some photos and you'll be fine.

Also, theft (or scammed theft) is a far smaller problem IMO than sometimes suggested, but a more realistic issue than getting scammed for damage.

Do I need to remind you of your post????????

"Also, theft (or scammed theft) is a far smaller problem" - so, you agree, there is a "problem." The only thing that remains to be debated is the size of that "problem" but now you are saying there is no "problem" it doesn't exist. You are contradicting yourself.

No, I am not contradicting myself. Reread my post in which I ask for examples of the problems you claim exist. I claim those problems, for which you can't give examples, for which the Australian government does not warn, do not exist.

You have stated that "theft (or scammed theft) is a far smaller problem" - so, it does exist, by your own admission.

So, a tourist rents a bike, the shop "steals" it back one night and then demands you pay 50,000 baht for a new bike. You either refuse to pay, or can't pay, they call the police, you are "detained and arrested" until you pay - this means you are not leaving the country until you pay. You have admiited the "problem" occurs - so, it's a risk to the hirer. You have contradicted yourself.

Are you a native english speaker???? :) :) :) :)

I give up, you even can't read or remember your own posts.

Ok. So, there is your original post. Once more, "also, theft (or scammed theft) is a far smaller problem IMO than sometimes suggested" - NOT SCAMMED THEFT DOES'T EXIST, AT ALL and "a bit more realistic issue than getting scammed for damage." So, it's a REALISTIC ISSUE but now you are saying the "issue" doesn't exist, at all. <deleted>????????

Again, reread what you wrote and my reaction to that. Nowhere did I say the issue of theft does not exist.

But reading and reaction to what has been written seems impossible for you, you only react to what you think people wrote.

And you can write here what you like, I won't bother reading your posts anymore, let alone answering them.

No problem from me at all about that.

Anyone who suggests to a tourist, "Yeh, hire a bike, no problems, you'll be fine. Just take some photos." Their posts are not worth reading and should be disregarded by the OP. You keep banging on that it's my opinion only when I have quoted the advice of The Australian Government and the experiences of others, as reported by the PG. Your advice leads lambs to the slaughter. Oh, and by the way, I suppose you have just totally ignored the huge amount of road death and carnage this high season and would simply post, "It didn't actually happen." Another two dead today. Same old blah, blah, blah from you - nothing bad ever happens to anyone here. Even Google proves you wrong. :) :) :) :)

Never had any issues or heard of any issues with them.

Avoid all rental people that demand you leave your passport, by leaving your passport you leave yourself open to being ripped off!! there is a great Frenchman in Rawai who rents big bikes, you only need a copy of your passport and all rentals include first class insurance, Patong beach road bikes do not have insurance so why would you rent there!!!

Yes worry about getting charged for damage you did not cause, if you leave your passport photos of the bike before renting will not help you!! there are many honest rental people but a few dishonest so best to find a rental person who does not demand your passport!!! and never rent a big bike without first class insurance!!

If you're here longer than 3 months I would buy an old click for 15k

Once your done, sell it for what you paid for it. And if you trash it, who cares.

What I am taking about is hurting yourself and requiring hospitalisation and/or an operation. No bike licence in your own country, means no travel insurance for riding a bike here. You could get a bill for thousands and thousands of dollars and they will not let you out of the country until it's paid.

Then, if you cause the accident, and sometimes even if it's not your fault, and seriously hurt, or kill a Thai, which is not hard to do when there are young kids or babies on their bike, well, then either you, or your mummy and daddy will be selling their house to keep you out of a Thai gaol by "mediating" the cost of a human life or permanent disability.

Yes, that is what is claimed.

Do you also have any examples of people being prohibited from leaving the country, the press would love this, so if this is really happening it would be all over the papers.

And also any examples of tourists having to sell their house after a motorbike accident?

I have never heard of this either? Sounds like propoganda to me.

I've always thought a motorbike shop that offers "guaranteed buyback" would do well here.

For example, you buy an old "Click" for 15,000 baht from the shop. At the end of your stay, you sell it back to the same shop for say 10,000 baht, minus any damage you may have caused. If you owned says you scratched it and will only pay you 5000 baht for it, you just sell it privately, because it's your bike.

It will only be slightly cheaper than renting, but will do away with the risk of being scammed for the scratch for 20,000 baht or 50,000 baht fo a new motorbike.

"Propoganda" - here's one just from yesterday.

http://www.thephuketnews.com/phuket-family-looks-for-help-to-get-injured-american-back-home-38668.php

It's also a thread on TV.

Could you imagine if the other party involved was a drunk bar girl, not a fully insured Belgian National????

That is an example of neither being prohibited to leave the country or a tourist having to sell his house after a motorbike accident.

You've had over a year to come with an example, and you come up with this?cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

@ stevenl

So, if the other party involved in the accident wasn't insured, the nice and kind Thai Government would pick up the bill, would they???? smile.pngsmile.png

Let's be honest, this guy would not have received his operation, and therefore, probably would have died, because no one was going to pay for it.

If a Thai family can't raise the money for an operation, the operation doesn't take place, and if serious enough, the person dies.

Are you going to tell me that doesn't happen here?

There was a young Australia guy last year who thought he was insured for riding a motorbike here. He had an accident and found out he wasn't insured. It was in the PG and on TV. They were not going to let him leave until the hospital bill was paid. Do you remember it?

Don't change the subject.

Over a year ago a question was asked to you to prove your claims, you could not and still can not give examples to underline your claims.

End of story, nothing more to say on the subject.

Most people raise the money, even through donations, so they get home. In other words, out of Thailand. No pay, that's a different story.

Anyway, maybe you can tell us what you think would have happened to this guy if the Belgian wasn't insured.

Hey guys, A friend and I are trying to hire two KLX's or the likes in Phuket. There seems to be lots of scooters and then really big bikes, but i'm after something in between.

As I want to head north to Ranong for a week or so. Im hoping someone here can inform me on where I can get em? Any places would be appreciated.

(I'm an experienced rider in Thailand - I don't need non-riders to tell me the dangers thanks.)
