Great Restaurant Experience - Cafe Des Amis

Featured Replies

Sorry you didn't like it PP! I have to agree, it is a fine dining place. Bare feet on a couch is a no no. Sorry.

I rely a bit on Tripadvisor.com. CDA is ranked in the top 10 restaurants in Pattaya. We had dinner at another one which gets recommended here in this thread. All 8 of us were disappointed with the food. Especially given the price. I guess it's hit and miss, eh?

I'd go back to CDA for sure. Even though it's a bit out of my normal budget. A splurge for sure, but IMHO, worth doing so every once in a while!!

But, to help make up for this, I'd for sure be willing to buy you a beer next time you're in town? Or next time I'm down in your area. wai.gif

Be careful of what the "top 10" list is from Trip advisor; for it only takes a couple votes to get an establishment or activity as no. 1. Look at the suggested "top" things to do in Pattaya for shopping. Number one is Central Festival; 2: Gem factory Shop; 3:Jim Tomplson; and number 4 is an Indian tailor shop. I don't agree with these suggested establishments as a good place to shop except Central Fesitval ...but I do know some of the shops that carry Thai handicrafts or places such as Mikes are popular with tourists.

Tripadvisor is a joke. Number two: Natans?

You're on!

Great! You know I live by the Ambassador. A place I like is called Drifters. It's near The Pinnacle, just north of the Ambassador. Great place to sit by the sea. Next time you are by, let me know!

Wow...when I wrote this review, about 1/3rd of the restaurants in the top 20 were not there. One with only 6 reviews? Fishy for sure.

But several good ones in the top 20.

Going away for a couple of weeks holiday this week so will look you up when we get back.

Drifters sounds like it's near Sea Falcon? That's a place we sometimes drop into, and the Thai restaurant at the end of the road.

Yes, Drifters is before the Sea Falcon. Pretty good food there and a wood fired pizza oven. Great views from their dining area.

We also like that Thai restaurant at the end. Ton Haad. Sea Falcon is a bit pricey, but is OK also. Can't wait till they get all that road work done!!!! It's a mess!!!

...They may have 10-14 staff members all on fair salaries including the head chefs earning 20 - 30,000 baht per month each, ...

So the head chef(s) can't afford to eat at their own restaurants. smile.png Life is strange.

I don't think that's unusual anywhere in the world - and in any case the head chef(s) surely can eat for free in their own restaurant.
