Reds plan across border Thaksin celebrations, says Jatuporn

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Thousands of red shirts will celebrate Songkran with former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra in Laos and Cambodia, Pheu Thai MP Jatuporn Promphan said yesterday.

"Thaksin is not coming back to Thailand at this time but will stay close in order to allay the feelings of those who miss him," he said.

Jatuporn said Thaksin will be in Vientiane on April 12-to-13 to meet his red supporters from Udon Thani and Nong Khai.

Thaksin's next stop is Siem Reap on April 14-to-15, he said, revealing he will lead the red shirts to join Thaksin in a grand celebration.

Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Sen might take part in the event, he said. At present, a Cambodian aide was looking for a suitable venue to welcome tens of thousands of red shirts, he added.

Commenting on a recent Thaksin phone-in at Surin, he said he expected Thaksin to come home after receiving a just settlement.

The injustice of the 2006 power seizure was that the Asset Examination Committee made an unprecedented move in targeting only Thaksin.

In regard to the controversial report on reconciliation measures by the King Prajadhipok's Institute, Jatuporn said Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva had gone overboard in his critique of the report.

The report alone could not bring about or derail reconciliation, he said. Fence mending would succeed if all sides agreed to work together, or fail if they worked against one another, he said.

He said from his point of view, the Democrats seemed to always oppose reconciliation because they feared turning out losers in the deal.

"The Democrats keep picking on Thaksin because they have no achievements to boast about," he said.

He went on to remind all sides not to get trapped in the past, saying he was willing to forgive the 2006 coup in order to allow the country to advance.

As coup leader General Sonthi Boonyaratglin was trying to rectify his past mistakes by pushing for reconciliation. Society should give him a chance.

Jatuporn said he disagreed that Chart Thai Pattana MP Sanan Kachornprasart should try to corner Sonthi to reveal coup secrets.

"I don't think there will be additional information about the coup," he said.

He said the opposing sides already had their facts and should move toward forgiveness instead of confrontation which can trigger a civil war.

Over the past five years, the red shirts had waged an anti-coup struggle based on facts presented at each point in time, he said, conceding he wanted to let bygones be bygones rather than arguing about who was the real mastermind of the coup.

In a related development, Abhisit issued his third open letter urging the KPI to withdraw its report.

The House committee on reconciliation was acting suspiciously - as if it planned to misuse the KPI report to draw a lopsided conclusion, Abhisit said.

He said reconciliation would not materialise from a majority vote in Parliament, urging the government to take an active role in mending fences.

Abhisit said he was worried about Thaksin's phone-in message which claimed to be lobbying judges to grant bail for red shirts involved in the political disturbances. Thaksin was speaking as if he could intervene and sway the judiciary, he said.

Democrat Party spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut said Thaksin had never paid for the defence expenses incurred by the red shirts.

He said the red shirts should see through Thaksin - that he did not really care about their grievances. Thaksin preyed on the red shirts to secure his amnesty and safeguard his wealth, he said.

Thousands? I was looking forward to seeing the video of Jatuporn's fellow Red Shirt Leader Kwanchai's pledge of 10 Million Red Shirts showing up come true.

In regard to the controversial report on reconciliation measures by the King Prajadhipok's Institute, Jatuporn said Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva had gone overboard in his critique of the report.

Jatuporn should talk to his own Pheu Thai Party as well as KPI. The PTP-controlled House committee has decided not to vote on KPI's recommendations.... after KPI's Head of Research asked that the House not vote on them.

Additionally, Jatuporn's boss at the PTP, Charlerm, has panned the KPI in favor of his own reconciliation bill.

So, they accept that Thaksin is guilty, they're just pissed that he was singled out.

I am pretty sure that is exactly how he sees it. And I don't think it is entirely unfair to say that they have all been at it for donkeys years.

Doesn't make the issue any different that he was caught and found guilty, however, I think we can pretty much guarantee that he has so much ammunition on so many protagonists who are still involved that they really have little option but to find a way to get him back. He could probably bring quite a few very important people down if they don't do what he wants.

And to think that the coup leader is leading the reconciliation. One really has to wonder why??????

There's also the possibility that if the paymaster reveals others, he is at the same time revealing some serious transgressions he was involved in.

I guess the answer to that question is written within the article, but you must be able to read between the lines. Why do you think Jatuporn otherwise want to save his enemy from being grilled. It clearly has been payday.

Jatuporn said he disagreed that Chart Thai Pattana MP Sanan Kachornprasart should try to corner Sonthi to reveal coup secrets.

"I don't think there will be additional information about the coup," he said.

OMG- That man sure does have the biggest EGO I have seen. It is almost like he wants to take over Thailand with his own little army. It looks like he is trying to gain the a demi god status, Who knows some day he may challenge those who shall not be challenged. If I was some one that was revered and honored I would be keeping an close eye on Him, his brother and little sister- something wicked comes this way. Just my honest opinion from what I have seen in other countries where I operated in.

If the Thai Schools taught world historyy from out side Thailand- They should read about the rise of Hitler, He sure has the same charisma in my opinion

Once again, it is all about the money. I am sure there are plenty of red shirts who are sincere in their desires for the betterment of Thailand but I doubt this sincerity in the leaders.

Indeed, but he has very little to lose, and he is the one sitting in exile. There is barely a single person involved in politics in Thailand who can claim to be completely above accusation of any wrong doing, be it legal or moral. The size of the skeletons in some people's closets are enormous. He is offering these guys a choice, let me back, or eventually it all comes out, and believe me, if it does come out, there will be some people implicated that will ruin their reputation completely.

I don't believe ANY of them is beyond reproach, and that goes for the even supposedly pure as the driven snow people at the top of the democrat party.

Gen Chaovalit Appointed As Supreme Commander Of People's Army Of Thailand

OOps this isn't the first time- My Bad 5555 I just be came interested in Thai politics in 2011 :) I still think he is headed to infamy as Thailand's own little Hitler and those who should not be mentioned should be concerned. I have studied a lot about him and his rise to power- those who do not the past are doomed to repeat it.

Hitler thought he is rescuing the country and wasn't corrupt, but murdered millions and started wars.

Thaksin is rescuing only himself and fills his pocket, but murdered only 2900 (war against drugs).

Can't be compared at all.

He was signaled out because he was the ring leader and made thee most money off of his crimes. Look at the amount he lost in his criminal conviction yet still had enough to finance the terrorism in 2010.

As for the rest of the article look at the source Jatuporn Now there is a guarantee of false hood.

Ever since I came to Thailand - one year ago. I've been trying to figure out what Thaksin has done wrong that all the other politicians and police have done themselves.

I'm not sure why so many people bash him?

I'm saying this as a neutral person. I don't care about him one way or the other or any other politician for that matter. I just wonder what he did that was so evil? Please enlighten me

I was mainly comparing the Charisma and the potential rise to power- your point is taken :) The point I was making was -he may become a charismatic power that may become a threat to those who shall not be mentioned. Really with an ego like his and the people who he has setup in power- It may be something to worry about. He and Charlem are some scary folks, I also wonder if they them selves are not tied in with the Mafia- I get that feeling for some reason

True he has a list of charges to face when and if he comes to Thailand and to pull the trigger on others will just provide more proof of his guilt.

My guess is that minimal numbers of the red shirt rank and file who go on paid junkets would have pasports.

So, can people readily cross into Cambodia and/or Lao and return without a passport?

Thai citizens can cross into Laos using their ID. They fill out a form at the border crossing, pay 200B and that's it. I don't know about Cambodia.

He has every thing to lose. His face how he looks. Do you not think even the red shirts would turn on him if he admitted to all his guilt no matter who else was involved. Remember he is not only a criminal but he is a Thai and to them how they look is the most important thing.

This is the call in that he told the red mob thugs he was negotiating with the judges for their release from jail. Carrot and donkey trick and they fall for it.

An interesting point.

I missed the part where he said the coup was a mistake.

Typical of the tricky work of CalgaryII. Notice he just cut one line (if it is in fact real) rather then give context or any other details of the supposed original work.

Recipes for destruction of a peaceful country.

But wait: "It's Not About Thaksin"....

You want to buy this great used bridge to Brooklyn,

you can put up your own tollbooth.

Hey, that reminds me of the story about a PM who massively abused his power and authority so that his wife could buy a large piece of prime real estate (owned by all the citizens of the country) at a heavily discounted price.

True story, he knowingly broke a serious law, but one confusing point is that this pm says he's the champion of respect for the law.

What becomes ever more interesting is how language is changing in a bid to turn Thaksin in to more than a man. To elevate him to a demi-God. He will make a "Glorious Return", Jatuporn says Thaksin will come to Laos and Cambodia to be close to all that miss him and feel for him. When the time comes there is going to be real, massive trouble in this little land and a lot of blood is likely to be spilled. Thaksin is playing for keeps here and he is about to go 'all in'.
