Court Denies Red-Shirt Bail Talks with Thaksin

BANGKOK: -- The court spokesperson denied bail talks with former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, saying legal action might be taken as the claim could hurt the credibility of the judicial system.

Spokesperson for the Court of Justice Sitthisak Wanachakit denied claims by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra that he is talking with judges about bails for detained red-shirt leaders and supporters.

Sitthisak stressed that the court is free from outside influence and it will consider bails for each individual case according to the law and the existing criteria.

He noted that the guarantee for bail may be assets belong to defendants, family members or any other persons.

The court spokesman said bail application is subject to approval by judges in each case and that typically the approval rate is 80 percent.

Sitthisak would not comment on whether Thaksin's remarks violates the law, saying that the court does not want to be involved in lawsuits.

However, as such remarks could threaten the credibility of the justice system, the court will take appropriate measures as a response, starting with issuing warnings and clarifications.

In the worst-case scenario, legal action will be taken.

I suppose a wealthy fugitive criminal negotiating the release of other convicted criminals would be just a tad embarrassing for Thailand's reputation.

The bashers may wish to go and listen to the actual statements in Thai.

There seems to be a wee bit of latitude shown with the TAN translation.

Could you please share with us then where the TAN translation differs from the actual statements in Thai?

In the event that the government has no money to bail out red shirts, he will use his own money to bail everyone out.

Maybe they should cancel the tablets

He has had all most two years to bail them out.

The longer he didn't bail them out, the greater their martyrdom.

The ex-leader also urged the red shirts not to take aggressive action against the Opposition Party but to express their willingness for negotiation to foster national reconciliation.

Agressive action???

Not exactly the words of reconciliation.

Thaksin somehow imagines that 'Agression Is Peace.'

It's right out of Orwell.

WAR IS PEACE

FREEDOM IS SLAVERY

IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH

Agression Is Peace

More like Carrot or Stick,

we will harrass you if you don't agree to SHUT THE HELL UP.

if not fought against, could triumph again."

Please tell me what warped logic you have used to turn a statement "not to use aggressive action" into "aggression is peace"?

Action which is not agressive action I would equate to would include lobbying for various viewpoints to be heard for example, the KPI, or the democrat party equivalent which would be to "threaten" to sue or impeach or boycott anybody/thing that appears to have upset them in some way, imo.

Does anyone have up-to-date information on the number of 2010 protesters being released on bail?

At the beginning of February, after the Justice Fund was increased, it was very close to zero % and all I've seen since is that the red shirt bail cases at the end of February (around 5) had all been rejected.

None have been granted bail, according to sources......sources than launched into a 'double standards" discussion vis-a-vis political types from other pursuasions being granted bail immediately.

In the meantime, Thaksin called on the yellow shirt detainees to be patient, saying that he is negotiating with the judges to help them. In the event that the government has no money to bail out yellow shirts, he will use his own money to bail everyone out.

Thaksin go to hell!!!!!! jap.gif

How many yellow shirts are waiting to get out on bail?

I remember hearing the figure of 79 being bandied about but I'm 100% sure that it was shown that there was only one and that he was in a Cambodian jail.

This is all making less and less sense. Thaksin says he wants reconciliation, so does Yingluck, the red shirts have their party in power and unlikely to lose it any time soon and the army will stay in their barracks so long as Mr T stays out of politics and sticks to bunkers on the golf courses of Dubai. So why doesn't he?

Opposition Leader Slams Thaksin for Tampering with Court

BANGKOK: -- The Opposition leader slams Thaksin Shinawatra for tampering the judicial system after the ousted former prime minister said his people are talking with the judges to help out in court cases against the red shirts.

Opposition Democrat Party Leader Abhisit Vejjajiva accused deposed and self-exiled former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra of attempting to interfere with the judicial system after the latter made blatant remarks during his phone call to red-shirt supporters at a rally in Surin Province.

The ex-premier said he has assigned Deputy Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Natthawut Saikua and Pheu Thai Party list MP Jatuporn Phromphan to talk to the judges for help with court cases against red shirts. Thaksin also said he would come home soon.

Abhisit called on the court to clarify its work process to the public to ensure transparency. He said Thaksin's action not only ruins the credibility of the justice system, but also adds more fuel to the unsettled political conflict.

The Opposition leader also submitted an open letter to a group of researchers at the King Prachadipok's Institute asking them to withdraw its research report from the consideration of the House Committee on National Reconciliation.

He claimed that the committee is trying to use national reconciliation as a pretext in order to wipe a slate clean for the convicted former prime minister without providing any solutions to the ongoing political problems to Thai society.

Abhisit said if the amnesty bill is passed to absolve a convicted person of his crime, it means whoever in power could point right or wrong at will, which is not a democracy.

Meanwhile, Jatuporn claimed Thaksin did not intend to disrespect the judicial system, but he meant to say that he would return to Thailand once he is convinced that the system is fair to him and not subjected to political influence.

The Pheu Thai MP said the ex-premier is assessing the situation and he might set his return date soon.

He confirmed that Thaksin will be in Laos and Cambodia during Songkran holidays.

An activity reportedly will be held in Cambodia to welcome red-shirt supporters from Thailand who will attend the bathing ritual for their patron.

Can you imagine how a conversation between Nattahawut, Jatuporn and a judge might sound? Be advised that we don't condone violence, but 10,000 red shirts are on their way to burn down your house.

Elections have essentially settled political conflict, with political disagreements continuing, as is the case in all Democracies.

I would be more than happy to see him return; put Thailand back into full prosperity and kick-out CIA/western political influences. Welcome back Thaksin!

How is Thaksin or anybody else going to put Thailand back to full prosperity? The world's economy has changed radically since he was in power.

It is Thaksin's fan-sites that are receiving founds from NED and other CIA-fronts.

How does your post relate to that which you quoted from the article :

"not to take aggressive action against the Opposition Party but to express their willingness for negotiation"

(My emphasis) which IMO does sound like a reasonable first step.

??

Objectively, there are two reasons someone may decide to defend this breed of politicians (and... is this still politics?)

But given the fact that these posters are able to draw up full sentences, we are left with only one possibility.

I genuinely believe that your writing style, if it is not an affectation for poetic effect, indicates a problem for which you should seek advice

That's immaterial to the "Full Glory" that will allow Thailand to outpace the entire world.

or something like that.
