Sorry could not resist.

Will be getting my marmite dose soon, as going back to the UK for a holiday, gotta pack some in the suitcases for my return as well.

Let's move this over to the Bangkok forum....OK?

If in doubt, then Villa can usually be relied on to stock this inferior form of yeast extract, usually a couple of shelves below the Vegemite.

If they are out, then you can always mix a bit if Vegemite with sugar to get a marmite like taste.

:P

If looking for Vegemite it can be found in the Market in Siam Paragon

That's if you can find Vegemite.

Certainly Villa on Thonglor and Sukumvit 39 & 49 had stacks of the brown nectar last week, in large and small jars. I think they also had some reduced price Vegimite as they cannot shift it.

Tops in Thonglor had some as did Central in Central World.

Hello fellow Marmite lover. Here in Chiang Mai we can find it in most (but not all) branches of Tops. We can also find it in Rimping which is another western style supermarket but I am not sure if you have them there? Also, can be found in smaller health food style shops.

When I investigated it, I worked out that to get 2000 grams of Marmite sent here (four of the biggest size jars) would only cost 100 BAHT more than buying it from the shops (the problem being that the shops don't always have it!) Luckily I have not had to resort to such measures yet. I believe that they have a distributor in Malaysia which is not too far (I found it easily and cheap when I was there.)

When I am in England I am going in search in one of those big buckets that you can get of it, I am not sure if they sell them in England or not, but where else could sell such a big size of it. I am thinking of trying Makro. You might want to try to do the same daftpunker, and one of them should hopefully last you out a year or two! But hide it in your suitcase as I'm not sure it's allowed.

Cheers Marmite on toast all round. :)

There's no sugar in Marmite you misguided fool. I tried Vegemite once, tasted similar to shrimp paste to me - awful. Perhaps that's why you prefer it?

clap2.gif Well said pal.

Marmite is good.....you use less of it than vegemite...one slice is too many rather than the two I eat with vegemite.

Might be referring to Kiwi made Marmite which is more treacle than yeasty goodness; very sweet by comparison to out wholesome natural beery pleasure, Marmite.

Vegemite is a poor comparison and contains no Vitamin B12, a deficiency of which can potentially cause severe and irreversible damage, especially to the brain and nervous system. Maybe this explains the average Aussie?

As I look at a just emptied jar and as another marmite lover you could when in the UK ring 08000323656 (Marmite loveline) and get any info from them. I didn't know they produced them in buckets.

You can always rely on an Aussie to bash Marmite every single time it is mentioned, but I never see Brits slagging off Vegemite. Inferiority complex methinks.

To me, Vegemite and Marmite are completely different. I like Vegemite, I prefer Marmite but Vegemite would not be a substitute for it as they taste, look and spread completely different.

Let it go Aussies. Only you care about these Vegemite wars.

Well, I did kinda slag off Vegemite earlier. I tried it in the hope of liking it though, I was quite disappointed that I didn't.

A lot of Brits dont like it too. Marmite's whole ad campaign plays on that people either love it or hate it.

For example:

I love it and Im going to contact Bunters that another member posted here to buy some (and some Bisto gravy granules!).

Bingo, wife is a kiwi, though she prefers the Vegemite these days.

I'd use Marmite in a pinch, but, yeah the Kiwi one is sweeter, hence the sugar comment.

As for the others, didn't realise that you were a bunch of sensitive souls. So I withdraw what I thought was simply a cheeky comment. I mean, it is only a spread were are talking about.

being a kiwi I just love Vegemite and Marmite...in fact I had a kiwi GF once who liked Vegemite spread on her nipples simply for me to remove it ......ah those were the days....her and I never needed butter, toast or bread......just a bed and a jar of yours truly....

Some Villa Markets have both Marmite and Vegemite...now I am hopeless with directions but lets put it this way.....cross over the road from S7 Nana up and over using the BTS and head towards Chitlom...about 700metres from the BTS is a McDonalds restaurant within a plaza type building...go downstairs thru the main glass doors (McD's will be on your right).....and VM is right in front of you....this VM has stocked Vegemite/Marmite for years I have been purchasing it regularly and have never known them to go out of stock.

Last time I went home I bought about 11 jars back....lasted me for a year and a half, but I need to finish the last 2 quickly before they go off.

Don't want to worry any of our Kiwi friends or anybody wishing to travel to New Zealand, but I received this link in an email a few minutes ago, seems there is a shortage of Marmite as a result of the Christchurch earthquake.
