Interesting article and a must read regarding tracking your cellphone, internet and anything else electronic in Thailand - summary: you have no rights because anyone can lie to get probable cause.

There is something of an issue emerging with Google and other major companies. Previously their terms of service indicated they would obey warrants (ie. judicial orders etc) to supply information about users. They are moving towards 'government requests' for information instead, ie. they'll do whatever a government asks, without requiring judicial oversight.

Very bad development. Invading the privacy of citizens without judicial oversight is always a bad idea. And if this means that they'll hand over user information to non-democratic governments with shithouse governance, well, that's just immoral IMHO. Basically, this policy change will lead to people being locked up and/or killed. It's pathetic.

We need a new internet, this one is broken.

Good luck. The internet is an open medium, like walking down the street. Expectation of privacy is not logical.

The first time you did a Google search, created a Gmail account, logged in to Facebook or Twitter, you have already surrendered the little online privacy you have.

It doesn't have to be that way, there's plenty that can be done to improve privacy. Stop logging things that don't *need* to be logged or dispose of it when no longer needed, and force encryption by default. That is enough to remove the worst snouts from the trough.

And host your website in a different country, preferably one with sane privacy laws.

its not just thailand ,google " carrier iq" and you wil see what the big players have been up to

"Legally" every internet cafe has to do this, just like every motorbike rider needs a helmet and to be sober.

Never actually heard of anyone following this law though.
