Before I left Canada last October, I got three 60 day visas from the Thai Consulate in Vancouver. Got a 1 month extension one the second 60 day visa and now I have to exit and return on my last 60 day visa. I am presently in Udon Thani and will probably just go to Laos. Can anyone advise me the best way to go? Should I drive my truck over the Friendship Bridge into Lao? Should I have to stay over? Where to stay? Possible complications??

You're directing your inquiries to the wrong end of the country but I suggest you leave your truck at home if you're only going for a few days.

Most visa stuff at the Thai embassy involves an over night stay.

Plenty of lower and moderately price hotels and guest houses in Vientiane, just do a google.

Make sure your paperwork is in order, have plenty of passport photos and you shouldn't have any complications.

From Udon it's only a short bus trip to the border crossing outside Nong Khai.

You do not have to go to any Consulate to obtain a new visa entry so it is just cross the border and return after entry into Laos. Believe most people use public transport for the crossing and there are large parking areas on the Thai side for this (you might have added expense of insurance/car paperwork if you do yourself).

You only have to do a border run not a visa run, like lopburi said just exit Thai immigration take the bus for 20 baht to Lao immigration, apply for your visa on arrival exit and then come right back. Make sure you do it before the enter before date on your tourist visa.

If I should take my truck it is registered in my girlfriends name. That should make it easier at the border but what about insurance? Kinda like to have this "freedom machine" but looking to keep it simple and be back in Phen for Songkran with family.
