Neurotic Ferangs need Cameras. Waste of money except to entertain us Old Hands. The Film will go missing, just like CTV Robery films, should it show a Thai Loosing Face:cheesy: .

You must have totally missed the video (now removed) from post #39. It's highly likely that 'first look' of the video prevented the driver being detained as well as the subsequent fiscal demands. Unfortunate that someone at the insurance company leaked it to the media.

Granted that most uses would be to short-circuit all the finger-pointing in minor shunts and fender benders. Nothing "neurotic" in preserving your No Claims Bonus is there?

Neurotic??? In my case it was the best 2000 baht I ever spent in my life.. Just want to clarify that I only suspect my insurance leaked the full footage to youtube and not to the media, It was me that invited the media, along with the police to view it on my laptop at the scene. I could see the police smiling when they saw me at the scene! I even got to find out that they were conspiring to stitch me up from the other innocent Thai party.. but that was until CH7 featured it 2 nights running.. I had done nothing wrong and the matter is finalised!

It;s always the Farangs fault if they can get away with it, in this case it clearly wasn't and I had the proof!

I had a near miss the other day that went something like this:

- Shortly after leaving a superstore I noticed the milk I had purchased wasn't sitting upright therefore I indicated to the left in order to stop & secure it.

- Having done so I indicated right and, when clear, rejoined the lane intending to resume my journey home.

- After barely a car length a clown on a motorcy in the opposite lane came within a whisker of bouncing off my front wing & very nearly dropped a toddler (in his left arm) in the process. I hadn't seen him in real time but my dashcam revealed the following:

- My actions had been 'textbook' throughout (mirror, signal, maneuver an' all that).

- I waited a full minute for traffic to clear before attempting to rejoin the flow.

- The opposite lane was very busy (bikes and cars).

- My idiot was visible for 2 seconds prior to making his move to cross the road & park at a venue just in front of where I had been. He checked the lane was clear but failed to notice my indicator/intentions (clearly audible on my footage). He also failed re helmet, lights, carrying the child & I suspect licence too....

In real time his mouth movements suggested he called me the Thai equivalent of what I called him:) (My wife laughed when she heard the playback & said "You always say that!")

For the record my speed at the time was 7kph.

The point of all this is that dashcams are invaluable. Anyone still sitting on the fence may find this video clip useful....
