Where Not To Rent A House In Ao Nang

Featured Replies

We moved to Ao Nang from another part of Thailand and came down in December to search for a place to rent.

Finally moving here in mid Jan we started off in a hotel then found a place which is just outside the town (if your coming up from Ao Nang you see the last Seven eleven, then there is a junction turn right then the first proper street on the left, then a right turn again) the place is called <name removed> resort.

The Thai owner has five new built single storey bungalows in a field, his main clientelle appear to be long term Russians. The bungalows are not cheap to rent ranging from 20 to 25k a month, one or two beds.

We moved in against a promise the place would be clean and habitable. Bad start, the day we moved in the place had not been cleaned and was filthy, it took my wifes sister and her husband two days to clean the place properly. Then things were found not to work. Again promises were made to fix them, days and weeks passed nothing done. Calls unanswered, sms messages ignored.

At this point we had a sink in the kitchen that did not function at all. You emptied the sink and the water flooded the whole kitchen floor. There was a leak underground between water meter and house meaning the water was running away, consequence was a regular 500 baht a month water bill ( which should be about 80 to 100 baht). The owner again did nothing about the sink or the leak and hasn't to this day. We also had a ceiling fan in the lounge which did not work from day 1. We were promised a replacement on day 1- to this day that has not been done. There is alleged free wifi on the resort. It works at best 50% of the time.

The owner of the resort (if you can call it that) failed to cut the grass so the whole field was knee high in grass, snakes abound and with a two and half year old we were afraid to let her out.

Then the best bit. The owner decides to buy two horses (but now after a month the novelty has worn off and he never comes to see them they are very much left to their own devises). He leaves these two horses roaming free in the field and fits a gate at the entrance to stop them straying onto the road. The whole area around the new gate is a quagmire thick with mud (made worse when it rains) and he expects his residents to wade through that to open the gate to go out, then wade through it again to close the damned gate. His horses have damaged my car twice, no response from the owner when I complained. The horses have demolished a lean to at the side of my house which has a low roof. They walk through and just knock it down completely. Owners response - nothing.

There is a large rubbish bin near the entrance. The owners staff are meant to empty it daily. They don't. It regularly overflows with several days old stewing rubbish just a few meters from my front door and stinks like hell. Combined with piles of horse shit all around the immediate vicinity of my front door its a really terrible place.

We paid six months rent up front (the owner tries to get this out of everyone). We have told him we want to go, his response - nothing again.

We have had a bad experience, remember the name <removed per forum rules>, you have been warned stay well clear, this owner will not keep his owrd or any of his promises, once he has your money your on your own.

Wow all the other problems aside 20-25k is ridiculous many Other places available for 10-12k a month 1-2 bedroom

I only detailed the main gripes, believe me theres more, I would have been writing a novel. We have had to fix ourselves things like electric showers that blew up (literally), there were bare wires outside left hanging which I found were live when I put my electric test meter across them - not funny with an inquisitive two and half year old in the house !!! The owner fitted an air con, worse job I've seen in my life, we dare not even switch that one on. And on and on and on......trust me theres more.........

Have you looked at somporn hill 3 bed townhouses go for 17,000 bht a month and you have a communal swimming pool.

As the moderator has removed the name of the place in question if anyone wants to know more PM me

  • 3 months later...

That sound's terrible, Harrykrabi bah.gif

I never pay more than 1 month deposit even all the house owners do try to get 3 to 6 months.

But I have lived too long time in Thailand so if they do not accept my offer I simply walk away....because what you have experiened here happens every single day for thousands of tenants in rented houses all over Thailand ;-)

Look on the bright side. You didn't buy the place.

This in spite of the many posts on multiple threads indicating that buying a property is the only way you can really call it your home.

But I digress....

Good luck getting it resolved.
