I hold a Non-immigrant O visa valid for 12 months. My long term target is to obtain a resident visa. I understand that I must have held a Non-immigrant visa for three consecutive years in order to qualify so I would like to know the different ways to renew the visa. Can I extend the validity of my visa before it expires at Immigration on Chaengwattana Road or must I leave the country and obtain a new O visa, then reenter with the new visa?

As you do not appear to know how to extend you must have a multi entry non immigrant O visa with only allows 90 day stay(s). This is not valid for meeting PR application requirements of 3 years here on extensions of stay. So our first question must be how do you qualify for a non immigrant O visa - they will determine your next step and even if PR is a possibility.

As said you need at least 3 consecutive 12 month extensions of stay plus a lot more.

You appear to have a Non Imm O Visa Multi Entry based on having a Thai Wife.

To apply for 12 month extensions you need the following:

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Letter from your Thai Bank showing balance and up to date bank book.

OR.

Letter from your Embassy showing income. Now may also need proof of income as back up.

Marriage Certificate

Marriage Registry entry.

Wife's Tabbien Baan and ID Card.

Your Passport.

Copies of everything.

Photos of you and your Wife in and around the house.

A map showing the way to your house.

Passport size photos and 1,900 Baht fee.

Take your Wife to be interviewed.

You will be given a 30 day under consideration stamp.

Go back in a month and get the remainder.

Every Immigration Office will differ a little but the above is a pretty good starting point.

Thanks Lite Beer, this describes my situation. I can produce the docs you have suggested would be needed for the extension.

I have a one year multible non-immigrant visa that will expire in August. I want to extend this visa for 3 months after August. I have to check in with immigration next week for my 90 day requirement. How is the best way to request an extenion?

Thanks.

Jim

P.S. I am 69 years of age.

Do you really have a visa from a consulate ouside of Thailand OR do you already have an extension of stay from immigration in Thailand?

Your post is a bit confusing, as you talk about a multiple non-immigrant visa (from a Thai consulate) but are talking about doing 90 day reports, which you only do on an extension of stay.

As Mario said , if you have a Multi Entry Non Imm Visa you should not be making 90 day reports.

You should be leaving the Country every 90 days.

Have another look let us know what you actually do have.

Thanks.

Unless he is really talking about a Non Immigrant O-A visa, in which case what he says would make sense. Agree that the poster needs to specify exactly what he has.

Regardless you do not extend a non immigrant O or O-A visa for 3 months and surly not the month "after" it expires.
