Thailand has convinced itself that there is such a thing as Thai Chinese and they are better looking and more intelligent and more successful and more hard working and more moral than regular Thai people. Everything good about people is embodied in the Thai Chinese.

Thais and naive ex pats have convinced themselves Thai Chinese are identifiable by their actions and appearance. Thai academics have even written books backing up this proposition. But it is obvious to anyone with even half a brain outside of Thailand and China that it is an urban legend.

To give yourself an idea of the scientific rational of this idea lets say it is Scottish Americans instead. They are more inventive, wealthier, better looking, whiter, more moral, more hard working, better business men than the average American. Are there Scottish Americans, I guess a couple of million Americans identify themselves as Scottish Americans. Anyway you get my point Thai Chinese are about as real and visible and identifiable as Scottish Americans. Sure the Scottish Americans exist but there is no way to identify them from their actions or appearance. Irish Americans perhaps but we are not talking about them.

I'm assuming that the girl in question's mother is Thai, and that the father may be Arabic, Indian or Chinese... anyway, I don't know the lady in question, or her daughter his girlfriend (as far as I know...) so can't comment on her charms or looks. I imagine she's pretty non-descript, though, if the most important thing about her is her parentage... presumably she's like Prince Charles

I don't think Mr K was calling into question whether some Thais had Chinese ancestry, merely whether they formed a separate race that could be separated out like aluminy tins from the irony.

If you really want to go into racial profiling and separation, as I mentioned elsewhere, you should study practice in South Africa, where they found that while black and white might be relatively easily separated, when they got to 'coloured' they found infinite shades of grey, not mention hues and sheens

I think that was his point. Not only is he aging, but he has aged for a long time past. When we look back on the last few dozen years, and what what we have learnt, in our cases (I hope) that was bladder control, our mother tongue, and some basic social skills. In the meantime, allegedly, he was perfecting the art of charming the underwear of Thai ladies, regrdless of parentage.

Personally, I choose to ignore old fools, rather than argue with them (and young fools alike - as a farang I have little respect for age or fools) but, like Eddie Waring, I do enjoy watching any sporting contest between people wearing ridiculous clownfeet
