The sheer audacity and boldfaced shamelessness of this family is beyond compare. Such unbelievable contempt for the foundations of a decent society. The Shinawatra's have to be among the most cynical, insidious, parasitic families in the entire world. They ought to be held up for the world to see so that others can observe the Shinawatra orgy of general malfeasance and learn how NOT to behave.

This does not bode well in our quest for reconciliation and forgiveness for all involved on the military side and political side in damaging Thailand so much at the vent of their political whim. Further it would appear that the court 'smelt a rat' as is indicated by the leniency of their judgement in the matter.

Well, I doubt anyone in the Shinawatra household is falling over too worried that a niece got hoofed out. However, as I wrote earlier, how can a person be still indebted to someone if the money they lent you was illegally gained?

Someone steals 100 baht from someones pocket, that someone lends me the money, the law comes along, nabs the thief and I return/have impounded my 100 baht. How on earth can I legally still owe the "someone/thief" 100 baht?

Marcos was more ruthless, but that didn't really kick off until he was into his 12th year or so of rule (coincidentally, that's sort of where Thailand may very well have been today if Thaksin had not been removed in his nearly 6th year).

I borrow money from someone who is subsequently found guilty of having obtained the money in a dodgy manner, and have money seized from me, but legally I still owe the money back to him?

Now if I had colluded to hide his assets surely that is just blatant fraud isn't it?
