I am to fly out to bkk with Etihad on the 2nd Jan 06 and fly back on 5th feb 06.

My passport runs out on the 2nd of aug 06, :D

this gives me the required 6 months on entry but will i get problems because i am so near to the expiry on my depature???

This is not helped by the fact that when i was last in thailand i overstayed my visa by 25/30 days.(due to airline problems and severe lack of funds by a mugging in saigon!but they won't care about that!!) :D

I paid the fine on the way out with no problems and nothing more that a few 'tut tut's' and shaking of heads..... :o

i am thinking maybe they will give me a reduced visa or worst case senario NOT let me in.... :D

maybe i should try to get a visa at this end (do you know how much it may cost at uk thai embassy??)

i would have sorted this out sooner but it is a real last minute trip and a suprise to me........HELP!

please allay my fears......!!!! :D

sorry just read the posting re:age /nationality

i am 26 and a uk citizen! :o

you will probably be OK

If you get on the aircraft you will probably be ok. But boarding may be a problem without a visa as you do not meet the 30 day onward travel requirement for a visa free entry. This is likely to be compounded if airline checks your passport and sees that overstay stamp.

You need a visa to be safe.

Yep............your going to need a Tourist visa as your stay is outside the 30 days allowed for visa exempt visits without one you may be refused boarding.

Bit late now but you could of applied for a passport renewal earlier this month (funds permitting) and you would of been given credit for the unexpired portion of your old passport, they give up to 9 months credit for applying early (UK citizens).............this would of allayed any fears you may have about the overstay stamp (new passport, no stamp)........not that its a worry anyway.

You/ll need to be sharpish to get the visa, xmas holidays and all.

  • 2 weeks later...

have just found this site and already it's answered 2 questions that have been bugging me regarding overstay and re-entry (not something my thai girlfriend complains about though!)

last time i was in thailand i overstayed my airport entry visa by about 5.......months! (health problems mainly).

i knew i would have to 'pay up' on the way out and i calculated it to be about uk£400. at the immigration office i was charged nearer £300. i put this 'discount' down to my 'banter', in my limited thai, with the immigration officials. reading this site i realise that the charge was the standard maximum 20000bt. so much for my thai social skills!

with the stamp in my passport my next question (not a worry as my main passport is irish and i was using my backup uk passport on that visit) was would i have problems if i tried to re-enter thailand on the stamped uk passport. question answered!

tha point of this post is to thank both 'posters' and 'webmasters' for an invaluable service. i first visited thailand in 1987 and averaged about 5 trips a year x 3 weeks for about 12 years. if only this and all the other sites (bangkok a to z;stickman;mangosauce etc etc; love them or loath them in my day all we had was 'trink'!!!!!) had been around then i wouldn't have had to learn from experience.

thanks a million and keep up the good work!!!!
