I'm going to purchase a new laptop computer.

My question is, are computers made to be sold in Thailand coded like DVD players made to be sold in Thailand are?

If I buy a computer in Thailand and I have DVD's purchased in the USA, am I going to be able to view them on my Thai computer?

"In most computer drives, users are allowed to change the region code up to five times. If the number of allowances reaches zero, the region last used will be permanent even if the drive is transferred to another computer." ... http://en.wikipedia....DVD_region_code

Which is software controlled, so TOTALLY hackable (google for answers specific to your drive unit).

All depends on the media player you use; VLC player (as mentioned before) or GOM player are two of the better free ones which play most formats. Not sure if Windows Media player defaults to the region code after 5 plays?
