Red Shirts Want Decisive Say In The Choice Of Chiang Mai Candidate

Ahhh so you did know what he was saying...ha ha Red humour...now I get it. Why do militaristically minded members make you feel uneasy? Is it that subliminally planted red brainwashing that starts a panic attack with you saying 'coupists, coupists' over and over again?

No, just people who agree with using the military and its snipers on it's own people.

you mean the Thaksin mercenaries paid to start his own little turf war, is that 'it's own people' who were throwing grenades and using rocket propelled grenades?. Phiphidon, you will never smell the coffee until someone spills it in your lap.

Phiphidon aspires to reach the heights of nonsense achieved by Calgaryll.

The only means is to deny reality. He comes from the same group of thinkers who deny the six million Jews Hitler had tortured and killed.

It is a sad reality that many Thais agree with him. As long as they are unwilling to admit their part in any thing Thailand will remain split. I can understand the Thai's unwillingness to admit they were wrong it would mean loosing face. But for a farong to support them is beyond my imagination.

I supported the red shirts until they started pouring blood and even though I was slow I realized at that point that those people were ill equipt to manage a 7 11 munch less a country, which is what there goal was.

As the days passed and I continued to watch their selfish lack of concern for the population who had to live and work where they had taken up there tireless rants and converted into a war zone even building barricades out side hospitals I grew deeper in my beliefs that here was no good. They have done nothing but deepen my belief in there worthlessness.

He will soon be there.wink.png

Red shirts want a say .........and they are getting a Shinawatra crony. Now what? Has it not occurred to one of these recognised red-shirt leaders that he could run as an independent, and have a good chance of winning?

Might that be a move dangerous to the health of candidate and family?

In yesterday's election in Chiang Rai for Chairman of the Provincial Administration Organisation (PAO), Salakjit Tiyaphairat, with the backing of the Pheu Thai Party, is expected to be announced the winner.

Salakjit is the wife of banned-from-politics, former People Power Party Deputy Leader Yongyuth.

She had received over 330,000 votes with 97% of the vote counted.

There were two other candidates who both proclaimed they had the backing of the Red Shirts UDD. One came in third with 8,675 votes and the other came in fourth with 3,099 votes.

So much for the "Red Awakening".

For all the talk of how they have become more politically aware, how they are more exposed to the workings and meaning of democracy, how they want to break free from the old power structures, etc, etc... When the time comes to vote they elect the same criminal, corrupt, thieving scumbags (or the nearest eligible stand-in)

IMHO the party list method of appointing MPs in Thailand is a corrupt system used for political payback and election of cronies, especially in PTP's case. Would people reknown for brutish behaviour and facing serious criminal charges be elected any other way? What sort of people would willingly select Yongyuth or Chalerm as their representative in the nation's parliament?

Every MP, and you have to be an MP to be a Minister, in my country has to convince an electorate that he/she is the best person to represent them at ALL levels of government. John Howard, our last Liberal PM not only lost an election, he lost his seat as well to a well-respected female journalist. With the party list system, how do you get rid of someone like Thaksin?

BTW I am not claiming the oz electoral system is perfect. In senate elections, a Tasmanian senator requires < 50,000 votes where a NSW senator needs > 600,000, which has led to balance of power being held by a succession of religious bigots, greenies and others unrepresentative of the nation.

How could anyone in their right mind be displeased with Santa Claus running for Parliament???

Pheu Thai's candidate gets No 1 in by-election

A Pheu Thai candidate on Monday obtained No 1 for his by-election campaign in Chiang Mai's Constituency 3 after Pheu Thai MP Chinnicha Wongsawat was disqualified for a false declaration of her assets.

Kasem Nimmonrat was given the number as he was the only one to apply to run in the election on the first day of application period, which ends this Friday. About 300 of Kasem's supporters showed up at the venue.

The by-election is required following the disqualification of Chinnicha, the daughter of former Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat, by the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions for a false declaration of her assets.

She was also banned from politics for five years.

Chiang Mai's Election Commission Chairman Boonrat Wongyai said the application period on the first day was quiet, possibly because of the rain.

Candidates from other parties have time until Friday to submit their applications. The Chairman was confident that the campaign and the election set for June 2 in Chiang Mai would be peaceful, as in the past.

In the previous election, voter turnout in the province was 86 per cent so he expects the turnout to be not less than 70 per cent.

He also warned voters that the June 2 election falls on Saturday and not Sunday as is usually the case.

As a follow-up, Santa Claus won the by-election in Chiang Mai yesterday and will assume his duties as a Member of Parliament for the Pheu Thai Party,

Wonder what the cost was for the election. I think the bill has to be paid by the Pheu Thai party or the individual who was disqualified. If the number of signs put up and the speaker trucks making campaign noise should add to the bill just for the disturbance factor..

Evidently, the Thaksnistas faction got to have the decisive say as Santa Claus, before he became a PTP MP yesterday , worked as an aide to Thaksin's other sister, Chiang Mai power broker and former First Lady, Yaowapha.

Thaliand Live Sunday 3rd of June had

"Police radio reported 71,365 votes for Kasem, 18,682 votes for Kalyakorn and over 1,100 votes for Pheu Pandin candidate Anucha Roontranon. While 98,245 people came to vote, 1,011 ballots were invalid."

Anyone who has the details on the previous election there, that would probably be 2011-07-03. I'm just curious as to how attendance and preference may have evolved / changed over the last year. wai.gif

Coincidentally, Yaowapha's own banning just ended May 30, although her husband's banning from People Power Party's committing electoral fraud and her daughter's banning for filing false asset declaration statements still have more years to go.

What a family. :bah:

So long, Santa Claus... sad.png

Pheu Thai Party MP Kasem Nimmonrat abruptly resigned his MP position, without explanation, effective a few days ago on March 13.

There is speculation that Thaksin's other sister Yaowapa (the one that isn't PM) and for whom now-resigned, former PTP MP Nimmonrat worked for previously as a close aide is being lined up to take his MP position in Parliament.

Like other Thai Rak Thai Party executives, her banishment from politics for electoral fraud has now lapsed and is thus eligible to run in the by-election in Chiang Mai that is required within 60 days of Nimmonrat's resignation.

Be warned - do not get between this woman and a buffet (or a baht for that matter).

More seriously, here is a great opportunity for the red shirts to show what a powerful political force (as some say) that they are. When she is endorsed as PTP's preferred, the reds can run their own independent candidate under the red banner, and take out a landslide victory. They could pick one of their arsonists on government paid bail, and thus legitimately delay the appeal process for a few years.

If there's any landslide to occur, one can look at former TRT MP Yaowapha's close aide, PTP MP Kasem, and how he many votes he won the seat in the by-election... that resulted in Santa Claus joining Parliament.

No reason to think that in the newest by-election pending, that his boss, would not do even better than him.

I was trying to point out the fallacy of the view of the red shirts as an upswelling of political awareness of the downtrodden masses, or some vast wave of social change.

Yaowapha wants it, she gets it, and the votes follow the money. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Alot of Thais are not impressed with PTs management of the economy, including alot of new taxes. Thats why people are not voting for them. Not everyone in Thailand is a rice farmer who wants high prices for their rice!

Interesting development with Yingluck's PM position at risk.

That it is over false assets is no surprise, that's a shinawatra forte.

Also no surprise that the bulldog is chosen to replace the poodle.

The ever adaptable k.Tarit has decided on a new definition of perjury, such that it only applies to a defendant, witnesses named Shinawatra being exempt. Not being related to a Shinawatra, I would still be reluctant to lie like a snake in a courthouse, as that definition may not apply to me.

I think party MPs will learn some lessons from what happened.

The lessons they should learn are:

Don't cheat.

Don't steal.

Don't commit perjury.

Don't be corrupt.

However I suspect the only lesson they learn will be:

Don't get caught.

The only crime is getting caught. Right?

Looks like the telephone pole failed, so it's time to try something of a more substantial girth.

If more substantial girth is the criteria they have succeeded for sure.
