Rainmaking Agency to Ease Drought Woes

BANGKOK: -- The prime minister says the royal rainmaking agency will take part in the government's effort to address the drought situation in provinces.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra today presided over the meeting of the National Water Administration Policy and Inundation Committee over the drought situation in many provinces.

After the meeting, Yingluck stated it was agreed that water levels in dams must be readjusted so that more water can be distributed to farmers while the Royal Rainmaking Department will launch its operations to help people in drought-stricken areas.

The prime minister said the Science and Technology Ministry has been tasked with exploring more water sources to increase water supply for agricultural areas.

Yingluck suggested authorities in Nakhon Sawan seek talks with residents to explain the needs to construct Mae Wong Dam, which is opposed by many as the project site occupies some parts of the province's sole national park.

She conceded the project has both pros and cons, so talks must be held to seek mutual understanding.

I wonder how many other countries have an official government agency tasked with rainmaking?

I think even the independent Native American tribal governments gave up on those a few hundred years ago.

I think their referring to cloud seeding projects?

DROUGHT

More rainmaking launched as drought bites in North

While many parts of Thailand suffer from heat and drought, authorities have launched rainmaking operations in the lower northern region to assist farmers.

Kitti Thupsri, technical specialist at the Phitsanulok rainmaking operation centre, said yesterday that since March the centre - covering seven lowernorthern provinces - had dispatched 137 rainmaking flights using 150 tonnes of chemicals which induced 32 days of rain and helped many farmers.

However, as the drought becomes more severe farmers - especially those growing rice, corn and sugarcane - are calling for more rainmaking operations. Kitti said the centre, that can send out two to three plane flights a day, yesterday dispatched aircraft to spray raininducing chemicals in Tak, Phitsanulok and Khamphaeng Phetch. He said if the drought remained severe, the rainmaking operations would need to continue until October.

Just another government Potempkin project. This will have as much impact on the drought as the 1,000 motorboat scheme had on the flood.

no that is wrong.

It does work if there is enough moisture in the air and it was well established in the Soviet Union. Thailands King could make it without or with less of the expensive AgNo3.

I believe that the King's method differs from previous seed salting with silver nitrate in one respect, it seeds the top and bottom of the clouds, this is apparently more effective. But rainmaking only works if the humidity is high enough, you can't squeeze rain out of dry air.

Will they be able to switch it off?biggrin.png

Not sure but I have the feeling that it will work successful soon.

Around June I expect the first results....

Thai King is the King of Kings.

Thai King is the smartest King of all, and have invented and patent "Royal Rain", a gift to save millions of poor Thai farmers when in need.

No other King or inventors even come close.

Long live the King of Thailand.

I wonder though why Thais have not emulated the King's zeal for learning, researching and doing so for the betterment of the country. Why Thais do not trail blaze and instead follow and/or copy what others in other countries do? Could it be the result of the Thai education system that heavily leans towards ceremonials and religious rituals instead of science in general, research and development? Just asking in search of a rational answer, not excuses to save face or make image.

Maybe oversimplistic but Thai students are generally are not encouraged to think for themselves.

Of course His Majesty is not the first esteemed royal scientist Thailand has been blessed with. Rama IV (HM KIng Mongkut) was also highly regarded in this sphere.

Most Thai inventors (however few), do invention for personal profit, in most cases, invent something to sell to the rich (however few).

However the Thai King, aka the FATHER of the nation, do invention to benefit the life of the for the poor Thai farmers.

That is why he is so love by the nation.

is this the same stuff as the infamous " chemtrails"

what are the spraying at high altitude that is seeding clouds

i think the best rainmaking compound is a healthy planet with forests an a total ban on burning rubish and sugercane fields and so on

would love to see my garbage beeing colected and transported to an incinerator where they can make electricity out of it and that plant equipped with a decent filter on the exhaust.
