Bikes To Ballroom.

Featured Replies

Was at the Moutain Bike competition this morning. Loads of people there including a lot of kids.clap2.gif

Another good event to put Samui on the map.

And of course plenty of bikers on the ring road. Not many wearing flip-flops (thongs for our anitpodean mates) or t-shirts, so look kind of serious (and a tad menacing sometimes).laugh.png

Which brings me to the Ballroom Dancing Competition this September. (Yes, there is a link here somewhere.) I was told by one of the spectators that apparently there is to be an international (10 day?) event across the island. Don't know much more than that, nor, to be honest am I all that interested. But yet another event for the Samui calendar.biggrin.png

I have heard a similar rumour re the ballroom dancing competition. Mind you, I cannot imagine anywhere with a sprung dance floor large enough to hold such an event. beatdeadhorse.gif

Do they need sprung floors? Would 'wobbly' suffice?laugh.png

Anyway I have done my research, and have found this ... http://oneinamilliondance.com/index.php .... please do not shoot the messenger, as I do not know what/when/where/how, or anything really. And besides, I will be too busy training for next years dodecahedron.biggrin.png

OMFG This is frightening crazy.gif

Well done on tracking this one down.

OK I have read the rules, and I cannot enter. I do not have any hair gel and I refuse to wear "heavier than usual eye and lip makeup".

Group C ,I like that one, Emerging level. Ok now for the Cha-Cha.

Ahem.

Ten days of competitions involving an anticipated 500 competitors and with a Guinness Book of Records world first prize of 1 million baht - total 1.4 million B prizes in all.

To be held between 10 different 4/5-star resorts, a different one each day. International TV coverage across 5 networks and Thai Channel 3. They are expecting to secure Manny Pacquiao, Olivia Newton John and Beautiful Boxer, Nong Toom, plus others yet to be approached as crowd-drawing personalities.

The website at http://www.oneinamilliondance.com/index.php is being totally overhauled at this moment, with the original one being junked and professionally re-designed and re-written. New one up inside a week . . .

Quite a chunk of the income is going to the Samui Leaning Centre for Children with Special Needs in Bangrak, where it's planned to erect a new building . . . plus to the Dog and Cat Rescue . .

Should be an interesting event.

Looks like this is going to flop.

Could have been exceptional.

Orgainsers cant communicate between each other and there's no public website 2 months before the event.

HEY! Professionals Like the multiple world-boxng champ and even normal folks are booked up months - years - in advance.

Two months to go and no sign-ups.

Sigh.

I suspect that you are correct Rob.

Let's see - 7,000 USD for the top professional prize. OK - that might pay for their flights and hotel. (But probably not the taxi rides between venues whistling.gif )

AS you say - top professionals tend to be booked up in advance.

Where are they marketing this in the dancing professional world? There are no affiliations with the professional organisations. eg IDTA

10 dances per couple (they have to provide their own music) and a performance to be completed in 4 minutes! So that is 40 minutes of dancing?

Hmmm it's late and I need to think about this. Something does not add up.

No - the reason that the website is being scrapped is that the person who made it made a total mess of it. He even got the prize money on the first page wrong! It's one million baht for the winning couple - $33,000! Hence the name of the event. A new website has been made and waiting to be put into place for several weeks now but the webmaster has taken the huff and won't give up the access codes.

Just over 2 moths to go until closing date for entries . . . penguin-002.gif
