MOSCOW: -- Vladimir Putin on Monday took his oath of office to become Russian president for a historic third mandate at a glittering ceremony inside the Kremlin.

A ceremony to hand over power from the incumbent president to president-elect has got under way at St.Andrew’s Hall of the Kremlin Palace.

The swearing-in ceremony started at midday, on the same day and at the same hour that Vladimir Putin’s previous inaugurations took place in 2000 and 2004 and Dmitry Medvedev’s inauguration in 2008.

"About 3,000 people have been invited to be present at the ceremony. These are members of the Government of the Russian Federation, Members of the State Duma and the Federation Council, Constitutional Court Justices, and officials of other Federal state power bodies," the press service official pointed out.

"Presidential campaign officials, representatives of the electoral headquaters of presidential candidate Vladimir Putin, other candidates who participated in the 2012 presidential election campaign, the heads of diplomatic missions, clergy, scientists, cutlure and art people, and public figures have been invited to be present at the ceremony," the Kremlin press service official said.

Sorry for the Russians about that. Such a dictator.

Russians like dictators (chair men, secretaries, Tsars, etc).

It relieves them from thinking too much.

;-)

How would you know? It wasn't a fair election process by any reasonable standard.

I thought the little wink gave away the fact it was more of a not too serious post.

True, the election was not fair, which is an understatment.

But on the serious side.

Why do Russia end up with these leaders, the last 1200 years that is?

Surely they are not less intelligent than rest of the world.

So, why?
