Hi,

I recently had some very good advice from you guys on this forum regarding the settlement visa, however i was thinking of taking a trip to europe, Spain, or grand canaria with my wife, she is coming to the uk on a 2 year spouse visa and was wondering if this visa would also allow her to travel to these european countries or if there would be an additional visa requirement.

Any advice greatly recieved.

The UK is not part of the Schengen area, therefore a UK visa is not valid for entry to a Schengen state and vice versa.

As she is now a UK resident she can apply for a Schengen visa in the UK, and should apply to the embassy of the country she intends to visit, in this case Spain, or if touring the country she will enter first.

See Spain Visa Application Centre.

Note that as she is, presumably, the spouse of an EU citizen that most of the questions and requirements wont apply to her and the visa will be free.
