Checking The Accuracy Of My New Thai Post Office Box Address

Featured Replies

I was finally able to find the CMU post office on campus and get a post office box. But before I send it to my US Mail Forwarding Service would like to make sure the form is accurate.

(Name)

Chiang Mai University Post Office

Box XXX

Chiang Mai, Thailand 5202

Do I need to add Muang District or is Chiang Mai sufficient? Also, is Chiang Mai one or two words? The woman at the post office wrote it as one word but I noticed that the online CMU site lists it as two separate words for their mailing address.

Some tips for anyone who will be getting a p.o.box although the requirements at other post offices many differ:

Bring passport plus 2 copies of the front pages. I was asked for my present Chiang Mai address but the business card of the place I'm staying was good enough. I was also asked for my local Thai phone number. The form was written in Thai but the woman who sold me the box was very helpful and told me just what to write & where. The cost was 500 baht for the year, which included the cost of the key.

That postal code is too short. Should be 5 digits.

Indeed the postal code is incorrect; it's 50200.

I would write it as:

P.O. Box xxxxx

Chiang Mai University Post Office

Muang Chiang Mai 50200

THAILAND

And then, just test it by sending some mail there. wink.png

It should be:

(Name)

Chiang Mai University Post Office

P.O. Box XXX

A. Muang (or whatever)

Chiang Mai, 5202 - this is one digit too short

Thailand

Thanks for the replies. The missing number is my mistake--when I checked the notes given to me by the postal person, she had written 50202.

Good idea to write to myself to see if the address is accurate. I may also ask friends in US to write before submitting the address to the mail forwarding service. I think they'll hold my mail for two months.

I've received lots of mail from overseas; I use this format:

[your name]

P.O. Box xxxxx

Chiang Mai University Post Office

T. Suthep, A. Muang,

Chiang Mai 50200

THAILAND

I always send myself a few letters over the first few weeks I move with variations of my name. eg Harrry XXXXXX H. XXXXX H.L. XXXXX

I find this way they find it easier to find me when they get something they do not recognise.
